To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Environmental Consultant to join our Energy Transition and Sustainability team in the Midlands.  

We have an exciting portfolio of projects which span several sectors such as highways, rail, bridges, energy, property and Local Government to name but a few. We work on a variety of schemes from small developments across every sector, through to urban regeneration and major national infrastructure projects. 
 
The Role 
 
This role sits within the Midlands team and involves providing technical leadership, project delivery and assurance across a range of environmental specialisms, ensuring compliance with legislation, standards, and best practice.  As a Senior Environmental Consultant, you will deliver environmental impact assessments for projects at all levels, working closely with our wider environmental specialists and designers to enhance and build wider benefits for the environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

Provide technical leadership within one or more environmental disciplines (e.g. Biodiversity, Landscape, Cultural Heritage, Waste & Materials, Water/Hydrogeology or Climate). 

Manage and coordinate environmental work packages and review all technical inputs. Allocate resources, input into budgets, forecast future work, manage programme of works to ensure delivery to agreed budgets and timescales, and implement contractual processes. 

Work closely with Amey design teams to identify environmental risks/constraints and opportunities, provide guidance on the best methods to meet project requirements and develop effective mitigation strategies and enhancement measures.   

Undertake environmental site visits, inspections and assist in environmental surveys, to inform project designers from multiple disciplines (structures, geotechnical, drainage, highways). 

Prepare environmental reports including EIA screening, EIA scoping reports, Environmental Statements, and other environmental reports. Review technical reports in line with all relevant legislation, technical standards and guidance. 

Liaise with statutory bodies including the Environment Agency, Natural England and Local Authorities. 

Line manage and mentor junior team members and keep up to date with industry best practice.   

We want to hear from you if you have: 

  • An undergraduate degree in Environmental Science or other similar/equivalent subject and must have an interest in a wide variety of environmental topics including ecology within a consultancy environment. 

  • Membership of a professional body or relevant qualifications/experience leading to membership. 

  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment interacting with all disciplines in the environment team as well as design teams, clients and stakeholders. 

  • Experience of working on infrastructure projects and contractual management is desirable. 

  • Ability to manage budgets, resourcing and plan workload, ensuring project stages are delivered on time and on budget. 

  • Experience of the Town and Country Planning (EIA) Regulations 2017 and Planning Act 2008 Development Consent Order (DCO) process (desirable).
