The Opportunity

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Geotechnical Engineer to join our Consulting Geotechnical Practice, preferably based in Perth, Scotland although candidates based in Edinburgh or Aberdeen will be considered.

Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.

Amey manages a substantial portion of Transport Scotland’s assets through the trunk road Network Management Contracts. In addition to these long-term asset management contracts, we have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, transportation and civil design projects with National Transport Agencies, Local Authorities and established contractors across the country. Our multidisciplinary team encapsulates Highway Engineering, Bridge/Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, River & Coastal Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Traffic Engineering/Transport Planning.

As an Geotechnical Engineer, you will play an important part in delivering our critical infrastructure projects. You will be involved in every stage of a project from inception to completion. You will undertake the production of technical designs and work as part of a skilled design engineering team across a diverse portfolio of projects. The Amey Geotechnical Practice

 

Our Geotechnical Practice has a total of 70 geotechnical and Geo-Environmental practitioners, comprising experienced Geotechnical Engineers, Engineering Geologists and Geo-Environmental Consultants, which play a pivotal role on all our major and minor civil/structural engineering schemes.

 

Our core geotechnical consultancy services include the following:

  • Desk Studies / Feasibility Assessments
  • Ground Investigations – scoping, planning, procuring, supervising and reporting
  • Design of earthworks, rock slopes, reinforced soil, foundations, retaining structures and ground improvement schemes
  • Technical review and Geotechnical Risk Analysis
  • Geotechnical Asset Management

 

In addition, the Geotechnical Practice provides input into Contract Documents and Health and Safety Documents for Tendering Construction Packages, while offering design support to multi-discipline site teams during construction works on all geotechnical elements.

 

 

The role

 

As a Geotechnical Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to the Senior Engineer and/or Principal Engineer on a variety of ground engineering schemes whilst taking the lead on specific project deliverables and mentoring junior engineers and technicians. Responsibilities include:

  • Aiding in the production of technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Taking ownership and leading specific project deliverables from start to finish.
  • Preparation of designs, calculations and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
  • Liaising with Client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries.
  • Contributing to the preparation of bids and general work winning function.
  • Play an active role in the effective Health and Safety practices within the team.

 

 

What you will bring to us:

 

  • Working towards Chartered or Incorporated status as defined by the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geological Society of London, or another relevant professional body.
  • Developed experience and expertise within the geotechnical field, gained in an Assistant Engineer role or equivalent.
  • Obtained a solid working knowledge of technical reporting procedures, in accordance with National Highways standards including CD 622, and design production in accordance with EC7, the DMRB and the MCHW.
  • Takes ownership for the preparation of deliverables.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (e.g Wallap, SlopeW etc).
  • Demonstrates good commercial awareness and understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
  • Experience in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management, and ensures own deliverables align with deliverables produced by other disciplines.
