The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Delivery Director for Transport to join our Consulting Advisory Business on a permanent contract.
As the Delivery Director for Transport, you will be accountable for the delivery, commercial performance and growth of Amey’s UK Advisory business in the external transport market and internally with Amey Transport Infrastructure.
The role carries full P&L accountability and is responsible for ensuring that client obligations, quality standards and profit targets are met, while maximising value from existing frameworks and developing a sustainable future pipeline of work across the transport market.
You will operate as a member of the Advisory SLT and collaborate with Practices and Heads of Profession to develop solutions and resource projects. Collaboration will also include business development to ensure contribution towards the development of a future, relevant pipeline of work.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a strong external market profile individually and for the Amey brand.
- Hold and manage C-Suite Client relationships with key transport Clients.
- Form, manage and drive strategic partner relationships as required to grow and deliver the business.
- Lead the delivery of a portfolio of transport projects or major programmes to agreed time, cost and quality outcomes.
- Act as the senior escalation point for client delivery, performance and contractual matters.
- Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and effective stakeholder management across the transport portfolio
- Develops a robust strategy to ensure achievement of optimum margin aligned to or in excess of agreed targets. P&L responsibility for the contracts within their area. Accountable for achievement of revenue and margin targets as agreed by Amey Group.
- Ensures optimal use of the entire range of Consulting capability.
- Ensures and improves the delivery of service excellence across the projects maximising efficiency and effectiveness, actively sharing best practice across contracts and seeking opportunities for profit improvement.
- Is commercially astute and ensures that all entitlements under the contract and through change are correctly administered by the portfolio and project delivery leads.
- Manages the day-to-day performance of the contract/s with regular site and office visits as appropriate.
- Establishes strong partnerships with Practice leads and assigned Business Development resource.
- Seeks out and identifies additional revenue opportunities, liaising with business development team to secure (framework farming)
- Day to day leadership for the resources assigned to the project or programmes.
- Forecasts resource needs for projects within their portfolio working closely with practice heads to enable the people assignment process.
- Identifies and manages risks to the delivery, including developing contingency plans to mitigate potential issues.
- Manage the supply chain as appropriate.
- Is responsible for Mobilisation and Demobilisation of contracts as relevant and completed in line with the agreed budget allowance
- Is accountable for ensuring a strong health and safety culture aligned to Amey Zero Code which ensures safe processes, procedures and behaviours as well as continuous improvement through best practice activities.
What you will bring to us:
- Be able to generate new Advisory business, converting major opportunities and leading successful delivery
- Demonstrable ability to lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams
- Proven experience leading large, complex transport programmes or portfolios (e.g. rail, highways, aviation or public transport).
- Strong commercial and financial management capability, including P&L accountability.
- Credibility operating with senior clients, partners and internal stakeholders.
- Experience working within a consultancy or professional services environment.
- Demonstrates well-developed communication, relationship management and influencing skills.
- Has experience running large contracts or portfolios to time and budget.
- Experience managing a significant client, or multiple smaller customers.
- Has operated within a matrix structure seeking support to deliver through influence and collaboration.
- Experience and/or understanding of industry and market.
- Strong track record of delivery success.
- Experience of robustly managing contract performance.
- Experience of bid management including mobilisation and demobilisation.
- Managed a Business Improvement or change management project.
- Able to evidence strong track record of client and project delivery coupled with CDM and strong HSEQ understanding.
- Degree qualified or equivalent experience
- MBA / Chartered Manager / Prince 2 / APM or equivalent
- Professional qualification in relevant field, or equivalent experience
