Title:  Ganger

Requisition ID:  12164

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative (Release on Temporary Licence - RoTL) to join our Area 12 account based in West Cowick, near Goole.

Collaborating closely with National Highways, Amey is responsible for delivering essential maintenance and response services across the strategic road network throughout Yorkshire and Humber. Our work helps keep people moving safely while maintaining critical infrastructure that supports communities and businesses.

The Area 12 network includes:
  • 1,650km of motorway
  • 476km of dual carriageway trunk roads
  • 179km of single carriageway trunk roads
  • 1,963 structures
Our team of more than 200 colleagues provides vital maintenance services and incident response activities across the network every day.
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, working 07:30 to 15:30. Overtime opportunities may be available, depending on RoTL conditions and operational requirements.

As part of a RoTL placement, you will always work alongside experienced team members. Whilst the nature of our work means we cannot always predict the exact location of work activities, all work is carried out on our regular road network, and your whereabouts will always be known. All areas of the network are located within approximately one hour of the depot should you need to return to base.

We understand that flexibility is important within a RoTL placement and will endeavour to work with you wherever possible to support commitments outside of work.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civils works and litter picking
  • Supporting winter maintenance activities where appropriate (although shifts and call-outs are not currently available within RoTL placements)
  • Attending project briefings, toolbox talks and safety briefings as required
  • Driving and operating vehicles and plant equipment, including undertaking routine vehicle checks and basic maintenance

  • Assisting with the deployment, management and removal of pedestrian and traffic management systems when trained and authorised to do so
