Your New Role

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Environment & Sustainability Advisor to join our Transport Infrastructure HSEQ Team, supporting projects across our Scotland and Northern Ireland accounts.

 

The role will be based at our Polmadie office in Glasgow, with travel required as part of the position. This is a full-time, permanent role offering hybrid working. Standard working hours are 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

 

The Environment & Sustainability Advisor plays a key role in supporting the business to demonstrate environmental compliance and drive continual improvement across our Transport Infrastructure portfolio.

 

You will work across projects of varying scale and complexity, providing expert environmental advice and helping to embed best practice throughout design, construction, operation, and maintenance activities.

 

You will be responsible for:

  • Deliver environmental support across projects within the Transport Infrastructure portfolio.
  • Undertake environmental screening assessments and assess works against relevant environmental legislation.
  • Liaise with regulators and manage environmental licensing where required.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, statutory bodies, supply chain partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with environment, carbon, and sustainability professionals to deliver zero carbon, nature-based, resilient, and compliant solutions across the value chain.
  • Provide clear environmental advice and support to operational teams, promoting knowledge sharing and capability building.
  • Prepare, review, and check reports, designs, calculations, and documentation to ensure scheme deliverables meet quality, cost, and programme requirements.
  • Support and oversee the work of junior team members.
  • Work closely with Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality colleagues to provide assurance within the highways domain.
  • Review, interpret, and communicate changes in environmental legislation, standards, and best practice.
  • Ensure environmental and social risks and opportunities are identified and embedded into decision-making, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify environmental risks and opportunities with operational teams and develop effective control measures, including for emergency response and climate change resilience.
  • Support the development and implementation of environmental and carbon management plans.
  • Define environmental competence and awareness requirements and deliver briefings and training as needed.
  • Monitor compliance through inspections and audits.
  • Undertake environmental performance monitoring, including carbon reporting, analysis, and evaluation, providing clear recommendations to drive continual improvement.
  • Lead or support investigations into environmental incidents, including pollution or damage to environmental assets.
  • Maintain ISO 14001 certification within the integrated management system.
  • Actively participate in industry groups and initiatives, championing innovation and best practice.
  • Provide environmental support to work-winning activities where required.

 

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Ideally, have a minimum of 2 years of experience in Environment, Sustainability and assessment,
  • Good communication skills, including verbal and written communication,
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships at all levels,
  • Good organisational and planning skills,
  • Passion for developing your skills both professionally and personally,
  • Have the enthusiasm to be part of a high performing team and a drive for success.

 

In addition to this, it would be desirable if you a membership of IEMA (or similar professional membership organisation) and you must hold a valid driving licence.
