The Opportunity 

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Senior Commercial Manager to join our Amey Consulting Commercial team within the Highways sector. The role offers a hybrid working structure with an expectation for regular visits to our contract offices in Bristol (BS32 4SR) and Nottingham (NG15 0DS) but the role is open to candidates throughout the UK.

 

The role 

 

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Commercial Manager to support our Commercial and Delivery teams primarily across two multi-million-pound National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) contracts. This role offers an opportunity for an aspiring senior commercial manager to grow and develop their career within a diverse and professional environment.

 

Responsibilities include: 

 

  • Develop excellent client relationships in support of successful account delivery, to aid change and conflict management and promoting Amey in retaining/winning future works.
  • Implement and Drive consistency of commercial processes both pre and post scheme for contract works.
  • Opportunity to develop as a people manager with responsibility of a small commercial team.
  • Coach and develop commercial and non-commercial staff to ensure commercial processes are embedded at all levels of the business.
  • Implement commercial best practice to maximise value and minimise risk and cost to Amey with a customer focused delivery.
  • Deliver/support the delivery of pre and post contract opportunity and risk management using the businesses risk management tools.
  • Work with Finance and Operations to ensure the full cost control of project(s) including providing and monitoring budgets, forecasts, monthly CVR reporting and WIP management.
  • Manage the change process and review all proposed changes to the works in conjunction with other project team members and ensure all contractual notices and early warnings are submitted within the required timescales. And in accordance with Amey governance procedures.
  • Assist and advise the senior Commercial and Operational leads in ensuring timely issuing of all notices required under the Contract(s).
  • Ensure all Application for Payment are made timely, inclusive of Anticipated Final Account, and pursue payments in accordance with the Contract(s).
  • Support the handover and mobilisation of key contracts commercially to ensure the tender strategies are understood in delivery and the associated commercial processes and approach implemented.
  • Support the Bid and Estimating Teams. Providing commercial support to the business stream to implement commercial strategies that deliver winning bids with managed risk and opportunity.
  • Working with Procurement to ensure that all supply chain and subcontractors are procured correctly and are well managed in accordance with Amey governance.

 

What you will bring to us: 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Hold a quantity surveying, commercial or related profession, degree or master’s degree, is desirable
  • Completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and progression to Member status of the relevant professional institutions will be an expectation of the role

 

Skills

 

  • Understanding and application of the principles of Environmental awareness, IOSH and Behavioural Health and Safety
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen
  • Sound knowledge of standard forms of contract and those specific to the support services market, in particular NEC forms of contract.
  • Awareness of industry issues and direction of travel and implication to Amey
  • Ability to further Client relationships whilst ensuring that contractual entitlements are not compromised
  • Good negotiation and presentations skills
  • Understands and promotes an inclusive working environment

 

Experience

 

  • NEC contractual management experience required
  • Proven track record in quantity surveying / commercial management with experience in a senior role
  • Experience of successful main contract management
  • Proficient in supply chain procurement, management, and accounting
  • Detailed knowledge of the records, approaches and options for dispute resolution and avoidance
  • Experience in commercial and financial budgeting and reporting
  • Experience of recruitment and management of a Commercial team
