The Opportunity

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Discipline for Capital Programmes & Policy to join our Consulting Advisory Business on a permanent contract.

 

Amey operates across the asset lifecycle at scale. The collective experience of the group in capital delivery is extensive – whether that be through public or private finance. The scope of this role covers a new practice focussed on translating our expertise into an advisory offer which includes economic appraisal, development, programme integration and strategic oversight. 

 

The Advisory team has a world class reputation in analytics, data-led transformations, and digital solutions in infrastructure; the team’s expertise also includes intelligent transport systems, asset management and the development of digital strategies for asset owners and operators embracing rail, highways, light rail, aviation, utilities, defence, and major structures.

 

 

The role

 

As the Head of Discipline for Capital Programmes & Policy within the Advisory business, you will be responsible for leading the development of our technical capability across a set of related services. Providing pre-sales support for Delivery and Market Directors; technical assurance across our live projects and supporting development of our people within the Practice structure.

 

You will have accountability for a significant area of capability across the Advisory Business aligned to a single Practice

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

 

Capability strategy & growth

 

 

  • Define and execute the capability strategy (vision, value proposition, priority offerings). Work with Delivery and Market Directors to develop growth plans.
  • Own the capability roadmap: develop / refresh service offerings, accelerators, methodologies, frameworks
  • Drive market positioning through development of propositions, case studies and thought leadership that aligns to the Advisory, Consulting and Group value propositions
  • Identify new opportunities to develop services or partnerships that extend reach, provide differentiation or improve delivery efficiency

 

 

Business development & client leadership

 

 

  • Lead origination: work in unison with Delivery and Market Directors to develop new opportunities
  • Shape proposals: lead the creation of compelling technical proposals and review technical content produced by technical / non-technical staff across the business
  • Act as a client advisor: maintain senior relationships across our clients in support of our Delivery and Market Directors
  • Ensure positive client experience: support Delivery Directors and Project Managers to provide excellent technical quality in all our projects

 

 

Thought leadership & brand building

 

 

  • Support delivery of our thought leadership agenda: liaise between Market / Delivery / Practice / Marketing teams to execute on our thought leadership plan through the year. Supporting whitepapers, webinars, articles, roundtables and conference presence
  • Create unique, differentiated IP: lead creation of tools, templates, accelerators that shorten sales cycles and demonstrate credible capability across our markets
  • Communicate across internal stakeholders: lead communication of our technical capability to support colleagues across Consulting Engineering, Transport Infrastructure and Complex Facilities

 

 

 Delivery excellence & governance

 

 

  • Provide oversight for delivery across the capability portfolio focussing on technical quality and risk / opportunity
  • Set and uphold technical delivery standards: playbooks, quality assurance, peer review and reporting to the Head of Profession and Sector Business Director
  • Resolve delivery challenges: support Delivery Directors and Practice Leads / Heads of Practice to address scope creep, resourcing gaps or performance issues
  • Embed continuous improvement: use lessons learned, delivery metrics and client feedback to enhance our technical offerings

 

 

People leadership & talent

 

 

  • Build talent plan: work in unison with Practice teams to create career pathways, capability matrices and certification targets. Support where required in recruitment of resource into the Practice team
  • Lead performance management: act as a coach, mentor and role-model to staff across the Advisory organisation. Helping create a sense of community within the capability
  • Mentor and develop the broader community: develop communities of practice and promote internal knowledge sharing
  • Line management: acting as line manager when required by the business

 

 

What you will bring to us:

 

  • Advanced degree, fellowship of a professional institution or other qualifications, memberships or experience that signal equivalent professional standing
  • Widely recognised as a subject matter expert within the relevant technical field, ideally across more than one facet of the discipline
  • Progressive leadership responsibility within a complex organisation
  • Demonstrable experience of leading a practice, capability, portfolio or significant service line
  • Track record of operating at Director / Associate Partner level. Leading leaders, managing multiple engagements and influencing across the firm
  • Proven track record in building technical capability (offerings, talent pathways, communities of practice
  • Demonstrable strong track record of managing project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Demonstrable track record of developing and/or challenging technical approaches, guidance and advice notes for internal use and / or on behalf of clients
  • Skilled at creating an environment in which multi-disciplinary teams can flourish. Role-modelling best practice in establishing understanding across diverse technical and sector communities
  • Broad understanding of the technical aspects across the capability with areas of deep understanding
  • Understanding of revenue growth, margin drivers and pricing
  • holds technical staff to account for technical outputs that have commercial, customer or safety impact
