We have a fantastic opportunity for a Site Engineer to join our Specialist Bridge Inspection & Maintenance (SBIM) team.

 

Supporting the maintenance and management of the M48 Severn Bridge, M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and M5 Avonmouth Bridge, you'll play a key role in ensuring bridge and structures maintenance, inspection support, renewals and minor works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

 

Working closely with operational teams, subcontractors and National Highways, you'll provide day-to-day engineering support across a diverse portfolio of structures activities, helping to ensure works are completed safely, on programme and in line with contractual requirements.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with experience in highways, structures or civil engineering maintenance to further develop their career on one of the UK's most iconic bridge networks.

 

What You'll Do

 

  • Provide site engineering support for bridge and structures maintenance, renewal and improvement works.
  • Support the Section Engineer in the successful delivery of allocated work packages.
  • Undertake engineering checks, measurements, surveys, defect verification and evidence capture activities.
  • Coordinate day-to-day site activities with supervisors, operatives and subcontractors.
  • Support the implementation of RAMS, permits, site briefings and associated control measures.
  • Carry out quality assurance activities including inspections, material verification, check sheets, snagging and close-out activities.
  • Maintain accurate site records including diaries, photographs, test results, as-built information and handover documentation.
  • Assist in coordinating traffic management interfaces, temporary works, specialist subcontractors and access requirements.
  • Monitor site progress and provide updates on productivity, constraints, risks and completed works.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the contract.
  • Support the delivery team in ensuring all works are completed in accordance with specification, programme and quality requirements.

 

What You'll Bring

 

Essential

  • HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • CSCS Card or equivalent.
  • Experience within civil engineering, highways, structures or bridge maintenance environments.
  • Experience supporting site delivery and coordinating subcontractors.
  • Experience carrying out inspections, measurements, defect identification and record management activities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Strong planning, organisation and communication skills.
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and digital site record systems.
  • Understanding of site engineering processes, inspections and quality assurance activities.

Desirable

  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
  • Experience working in structures, access-constrained or live traffic environments.
  • Awareness of temporary works, access systems, permits and traffic management requirements.
  • Knowledge of bridge maintenance activities, common defects and repair techniques.
  • Experience supporting inspections, maintenance and renewal projects on highway structures.
