Title:  Senior Structures Inspector

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Structures Inspector to join our dynamic SBIM Team at the Severn Bridge Maintenance Unit. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the safe and effective inspection of one of the UK's most iconic structures.
 
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the annual inspection programme and all associated inspection reporting are completed in accordance with relevant technical standards and client requirements. You will support the delivery of inspections and reports safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

 

What You Will Be Doing

 

  • Implement contractual inspection requirements to fully meet the client specification in accordance with relevant standards and programmes.
  • Work confidently under minimal supervision and check the work of others while supervising less experienced team members.
  • Assist the Bridge Manager in developing training programmes for junior members of staff.
  • Carry out site visits and surveys.
  • Prepare and review feasibility studies, inspection reports, assessments, technical reports, and other documentation in line with Amey procedures.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Amey Integrated Management System, including Health & Safety, Environmental and all other relevant regulations.
  • Engage effectively with clients, stakeholders and third parties.
  • Support bid preparation and delivery of services on other contracts when required.
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practice and promote its application within the team.
  • Participate in the on-call rota to support emergency response requirements outside normal working hours.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to deliver inspection activities.
  • Coach and mentor apprentices and support their development across the contract.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in working across three different structures.
  • Carry out detailed visual inspections of structures.
  • Perform basic non-destructive testing and inspection techniques.
  • Record and capture all plant, labour and materials using tablet-based systems.

We Want to Hear From You If You Have

 

Essential

 

  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and engineering designs.
  • Good working knowledge of metals, metallurgy, concrete and other construction materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

 

Desirable

 

  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Completed or working towards the Bridge Inspection Certification Scheme (BICS).
  • CSWIP 3.1 Weld Inspector or CSWIP 3.2 Senior Weld Inspector certification.
  • PCN Level 2 Dye Penetrant Testing certification.
  • PCN Level 2 Magnetic Particle Inspection certification.
  • IPAF 1A Static Boom qualification.
  • IRATA qualification.
