Equity, Diversity
and Inclusion

We embrace difference and provide opportunities for all, regardless of background.

Embracing difference

More than just words

Providing opportunities for all

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to thrive regardless of age, disability, sex or gender identity, sexual orientation, race, marital status, pregnancy or maternity status, or religion or beliefs. That's why we are placed first in the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion Construction and Engineering rankings. To underpin our commitments, we're signed up to the Race Equality charter and, in 2022, published our first ever Ethnicity Pay Gap report, which highlighted that our pay gap is better than the national average. We're also committed to playing our part in reducing the industry-wide deficit of women in STEM careers. We appreciate that there is more work to do and remain committed to levelling the playing field for all.

Finding affinity through difference

Our Affinity networks foster a culture of belonging by organising networking events, learning sessions on how to be an ally, and by working closely with leadership and our People Services team to make sure that our policies are fair for all. They are:

Diversability: Supporting colleagues with long-term health conditions and disabilities.
Multicultural: A place to learn about race and different cultures and backgrounds.
Neurodiversity: Supporting neurodivergent colleagues and raising awareness about conditions such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Dyslexia.
Parents & Carers: Supporting colleagues who are parents and/or carers.
Pride: Providing resources for LGBT+ colleagues and allies.
Wellbeing: Supporting colleagues in prioritising their health and wellbeing.
Women at Amey: Working towards gender parity.

Bettering communities through social value

We recognise that barriers to employment are greater for some than for others. That's why we're proud to organise and support initiatives that help bring those from disadvantaged backgrounds into the workforce. Our Headstart initiative, in close partnership with Department for Work & Pensions DWP), provides on-the-job training and mentoring for people in hard-to-reach communities and our Journey To Work programme supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with job search skills and interview preparation. By working closely with our clients, external partners and local authorities on these initiatives, we hope to improve the lives and prospects of people in communities across the UK.

Supporting veterans and service leavers

For many veterans, service leavers and their families, the transition from the armed forces to civilian life can be daunting. That's why, in partnership with organisations such as BuildForce, Career Transition Partnership (CTP), Forces Families Jobs, and Forces Transition Group, we're committed to providing stable and rewarding work for ex-military personnel and their families.
