We have an exciting opportunity for an Operational Controller to join our Strategic Highways Area 7 team based in Newton-le-Willows, Warrington.
Working within a fast-paced operational environment, you will play a key role in coordinating incident response activities across the strategic road network, ensuring a safe and efficient service for road users and stakeholders alike.
This is a fully site-based role operating on a rotating shift pattern.

Hours of Work
  • 12-hour shifts
  • 4 days on, 4 days off
  • 4 nights on, 4 days off
  • Overtime opportunities available

What you will be doing

  • Coordinating Incident Response Teams (IRT) across the strategic highway network
  • Deploying crews to accidents, incidents and emergency situations
  • Managing defects reported by inspectors, the police and other stakeholders
  • Acting as a central point of communication between operational teams and stakeholders
  • Supporting daily operational handovers to ensure continuity of service
  • Managing resource deployment and operational responses
  • Coordinating rolling road blocks and access arrangements where required
  • Recording and communicating key operational information accurately
  • Supporting the delivery of a safe, responsive and customer-focused highways service

  • Experience within a fast-paced operational, highways, infrastructure or engineering environment
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • The ability to make decisions confidently under pressure
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Experience managing client relationships and delivering customer-focused outcomes

Desirable Experience

  • HNC/HND qualification or equivalent
  • Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Experience of bridge and highway structures
  • Experience supporting inspection and maintenance projects
  • Previous line management or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of highway inspection and maintenance regimes
