Your New Role:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Public Affairs Manager to work with the organisation’s senior leadership to build and develop strong relationships with key external stakeholders in Government, non-public sector organisations and regulators. We want you to work with our experts to develop our strategic communications such as white papers, thought leadership articles and briefings, and to build Amey’s reputation as a leader in the energy transition. The standard hours of work are 37.5 per week.

You will be responsible for:

  • Manage all key stakeholder activity and monitor external developments relevant to the sector so that it can be fed back to the organisation and used to develop Amey’s business approach.  

  • Support the business leaders to maintain regular contact with key external stakeholders in Government and non-departmental public bodies or regulators, to better understand our stakeholders needs and keep them informed about the organisation’s work. 

  • Develop a strong network of contacts internally and externally in order to gain audience insights and continue to build a positive narrative around the organisation. 

  • Lead on a strategic approach to key stakeholder engagement.  

  • Prepare and support the preparation of white papers, submissions to Government consultations, news releases, articles, briefing materials and statements that support and improve understanding of the organisation’s value among key stakeholders.  

  • Ensure there is a clear process in place to capture any feedback from key stakeholder meetings and arrange follow-up submissions.  

  • Monitor proceedings of the UK Parliament and European institutions and provide analysis of these for senior staff members. 

  • Work with the relevant business leads to plan for and develop an appropriate response to issues and crisis. 

  • Ensure senior staff are kept updated on key policy developments and media coverage relevant to the sector.  

  • To manage the press office team.

  • National and industry stakeholders and non-governmental bodies.

  • PR agencies 

Internal: 

  • Marketing/Communications colleagues business wide  

  • Group and Business Unit senior leadership teams. 

  • Business development and work winning teams.  

  • JV partners.  

  • Regional communications teams  

  • Functional representatives (HR, Finance etc) 

 

We want to hear from you if you have/are: 

  • Degree in Politics or related Subject. 

  • Excellent writing skills for a wide range of audiences.  

  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK political environment and Government.  

  • Excellent people skills with the ability to network to build strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.  

  • Significant experience of public affairs and building relationships in a public sector environment.  

  • Experience of writing white papers and other articles which are intended for a government audience.  

  • Significant media experience – in house or agency 

  • Experience of working within a matrix organisation 

  • Ideally sector experience 

  • Significant crisis communications experience 

  • Strong influencing and communication skills 

  • Team player who works collaborative 

  • Drive to get things done amid complexity 

  • Good working knowledge of digital work planning tools
