Requisition ID:  10598

Employee Relations Advisor

Salary: CIRCA £30,000 per annum

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday–Friday

Contract: Permanent

The Role

As an Employee Relations (ER) Advisor, you will play a vital role in supporting line managers across a diverse workforce of approximately 1,500 employees across 64 sites. Your primary focus will be on reducing sickness absence by providing guidance, training, and support to managers, ensuring they proactively manage attendance and employee well-being.

You will work alongside an external advisory service to complement the formal case management process, helping managers act promptly on low-level ER issues such as absence management, conduct, performance, and grievances.

Strong data analysis and Excel skills are essential, as you will be responsible for generating reports and insights to support strategic decision-making within the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior-level ER professional looking to develop their skills in a fast-paced environment with structured mentorship and exposure to a broad range of employee relations

Leading complex ER cases, and shaping culture across a diverse, multi-site workforce.

Employee Relations & Casework

  • Provide first-line support to managers on low-level ER cases, particularly focusing on sickness absence.
  • Assist managers in interpreting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with employment law and company guidelines.
  • Guide managers on appropriate interventions to reduce sickness absence, including referrals to occupational health, return-to-work interviews, and reasonable adjustments.
  • Support managers in handling low-level conduct and capability issues, escalating cases to the People Operations Manager when required.
  • Work alongside an external ER advisory service, ensuring prompt case progression.

Training & Coaching

  • Deliver training to managers on absence management best practices, return-to-work processes, and early intervention techniques.
  • Build manager confidence in handling ER issues by providing coaching and on-the-job support.
  • Help drive a culture of early resolution, reducing the number of cases that escalate into formal processes.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Use Excel and generated reports on sickness absence to provide the business with insights and other ER metrics.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and identify hotspots where intervention is needed.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop strong relationships with managers, offering a patient and customer-focused advisory service.
  • Work closely with HR colleagues, the external ER service provider, occupational health, and our transactional supporting HR team (People Services) to ensure a joined-up approach.
  • Provide support in regional operations meetings, presenting insights and discussing challenges with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure that complex issues are escalated appropriately to the People Operations Manager.

Policy & Compliance

  • Ensure that all advice and guidance provided is aligned with employment legislation, ACAS best practices, and company policies.
