We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Category Manager.  This role offers the flexibility of remote working with occasional travel required to our various office locations.

HOURS OF WORK:  Monday to Friday – 37.5 Hours per week

What you will do:

  • Apply the Amey 5-Step Procurement Process to all procurement activities, ensuring consistency, compliance, and strategic alignment across business units.
  • Support the Head of Procurement in developing and executing sector-specific category strategies. This includes strategic planning, supplier identification, sourcing plan development, and implementation of procurement strategies tailored to each Business Division.
  • Lead Category Management for designated categories, leveraging Amey’s buying power and supplier relationships to deliver optimal value and lowest total cost of ownership.
  • Ensure specification alignment by validating that procured goods, materials, and services meet defined requirements and deliver best value.
  • Provide bid support and contract mobilisation, contributing to make/buy decisions and driving operational efficiencies while remaining responsive to market dynamics and competitive pressures.
  • Facilitate cross-functional knowledge transfer, promoting collaboration and best practice sharing across contracts, projects, and divisions.
  • Track and report procurement savings at both project and category levels, supporting performance transparency and continuous improvement.
  • Manage supplier performance and development, contributing to the Goods and Materials supplier roadmap and programme to maximise value delivery across the supply chain.
  • Forecast forward purchasing needs in collaboration with business divisions, ensuring proactive procurement planning.
  • Collaborate with Transaction Services to maintain accurate supplier data in SAP, enabling seamless order placement and S2P process execution.
  • Champion procurement risk management, developing and embedding risk mitigation strategies for goods and materials sourcing.
  • Act as a sustainability ambassador, driving Amey’s sustainability agenda through supplier engagement and responsible sourcing practices.

Experience

  • Significant procurement experience in the Infrastructure Support Services and Built Environment asset management sectors 
  • Experience in the procurement of construction / infrastructure maintenance / soft and hard business / building services subcontracts and materials 
  • A track record in conducting firm, fair and ethical negotiations with supply chain
  • Ability to demonstrate a successful track record in delivering procurement cost savings
