Title: Electrical Risk Assessor
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Electrical Risk Manager
to join our dynamic AIW/IM team at Treforest. 35 hrs per week, onsite/office-based role.
In this role, you will be responsible for the identification and justification for the electrical safe system of work and ensuring the electrical risk for planned construction, maintenance, inspection, testing, and operational activities are identified, assessed, and controlled so far as is reasonably practicable.
This role offers you the unique opportunity to work on South Wales Metro project – delivering ambitions of the WELSH Government delivering new services to the CVL area.
What You’ll Do:
- Produce task specific and asset specific Electrical Risk Assessments (ERAs) for works undertaken on the CVL network.
- Identify electrical hazards associated with:
- Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) systems
- HV Cables and HV Cable Routes
- Overhead line equipment (OLE), substations, switchgear, and auxiliary supplies
- Understand and evaluate the nature of the task, its location, the task delivery method, the plant/materials utilised and the affected electrical infrastructure and assigning the appropriate mitigations.
- Define appropriate engineering, procedural, and behavioural control measures to mitigate electrical risks.
- Communicate the output of any electrical risk assessment with the Work Requestor, Responsible Manager, E&P Engineer, and any isolation provider or Nominated Person, confirming that the isolation details are used at the planning stage.
- Ensure Electrical Risk Assessments have been reviewed by a peer, when high electrical risk criteria has been identified.
- Manage the planning and resourcing of OLE isolations on CVL infrastructure that enables all work to be delivered safely, efficiently and compliant to standards.
- Lead on the delivery of OLE Isolations, including acting as the nominated person where required.
- Manage the development of individuals and the engagement of the team including for staff competence and welfare.
- Develop a programme of staff surveillance, work quality and asset condition checks.

What You’ll Bring:
- ELS 01: Electrical Risk Assessor
- Nominated Person - OLE AC Isolation NP OLE/AC-i or ELS 03: Nominated Person (NP)
- Controller of Site safety (COSS)
- Proven experience delivering isolations and managing electrical risk.
- Proven experience of managing and directing a team.
- Proven experience of managing the production and delivery of a comprehensive and compliant work programme.
- Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
- Knowledge of budget management and cost/waste control processes & techniques.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Full UK driving license required.
