Title:  Assistant Buildings & Civil Engineer

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Assistant Buildings & Civil Engineer to join our dynamic AIW/CVL team at Treforest. 37.5 hrs per week, hybrid working (Min 2 days a week from office/site)

In this role, you will Assist the Building & Civils Engineer in the effective delivery of inspection, maintenance, and project works across all CVL Building and Civil Infrastructure assets, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulatory requirements. The role supports the continuous improvement of safety, asset performance, and operational efficiency by promoting a positive safety culture, implementing compliance and performance strategies, and following established business processes to help deliver a safe, reliable, and high-performing asset portfolio.

This role offers you the unique opportunity to work on the Core Valley Lines, currently the biggest investment in public transport infrastructure in Wales.

What You’ll Do:

• Assist the Building & Civils Engineering with the development and implementation of the annual maintenance business plans, ensuring that work is correctly prioritised and volumes both delivered to plan within the agreed budgetary constraints.
• Assist with the production of asset renewal remits.
• Help identify and implement safety, asset performance, reliability, productivity and efficiency improvement initiatives.
• Assist the Buildings & Civils engineering team to be compliant to the management assurance process and prevent non-compliance to standards.
• Assist with the development and improve relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers
• Managing and analysing Maximo Asset data
• Liaison with CAFA team regarding ongoing assessment programme
• Management of abnormal load request with appropriate supervision

What You’ll Bring:

• Knowledge and understanding of the technical specification and standards for the structural and operational property examinations
• Demonstrable railway industry experience in buildings & structures, maintenance or assessment
• Knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures
• Degree or HNC/HND in Civil or Structures Engineering and hold or working towards the equivalent professional / technical qualification
• Computer literate with an advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite. (EXCEL)
• PTS
• Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

• Knowledge of Network Rail’s Building & Civils assets and how they are managed
• Relevant experience of working in an engineering role in a railway operating environment
• Familiar with an Enterprise Asset Management System particularly MAXIMO
• Experience in managing and interrogating large data sets
• Experience with a risk-based approach to inspections, assessments, maintenance and renewal work
