The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Delivery Director – New Markets to join our Consulting business. This is a key strategic role focused on establishing and growing Amey’s presence across emerging engineering sectors including Energy, Defence, Aviation and Healthcare.

This role is pivotal in driving our Consulting growth strategy towards 2029, ensuring that our multidisciplinary engineering expertise - Programme Delivery, Systems Engineering, Structural Engineering and more can be successfully deployed into new and expanding markets.

You will work across our Consulting, Transport Infrastructure (TI) and Complex Facilities (CF) teams, developing new market entry plans, building client relationships, and leading a growing portfolio of programmes and frameworks.

The Role

Reporting to the Sector Director, the Senior Delivery Director leads the delivery of a strategically critical portfolio of new-market projects, programmes and frameworks. You will be accountable for P&L performance, client satisfaction, operational excellence, and the development of a sustainable future pipeline of new opportunities.

This is a strategic, outward-facing position requiring exceptional commercial leadership, market development experience, and a strong track record in consulting delivery.

Responsibilities Include:

Strategic Market Growth

• Working with relevant Market Directors to create market entry plans for the engineering sector into Energy, Defence, Aviation and Healthcare.
• Leveraging transferable capabilities (Programme Delivery, Systems Engineering, Structural Engineering etc.) to drive strategic growth to 2029.
• Identifying and developing a pipeline of opportunities across CF, TI and Advisory by targeting clients, frameworks, market channels and growth opportunities.
• Identifying resourcing requirements including growth of Practices, new disciplines and market-specific delivery capabilities.
• Working with Marcomms to develop market awareness and engagement plans, campaigns and collateral.

Portfolio Leadership & Delivery

• Accountable for the delivery of a strategically significant portfolio of new-market work to time, budget and high client satisfaction.
• Growing and delivering a portfolio of programmes and frameworks to £40m+ p.a. by 2029.
• Ensuring commercial and operational performance, maintaining full Programme/Project/Framework P&L accountability.
• Ensuring optimal use of the full Consulting capability across disciplines and Practices.
• Leading daily performance management, ensuring service excellence, efficiency, risk management and continuous improvement.
• Managing subcontractors and supply chain partners as appropriate.

Client & Stakeholder Leadership

• Developing and managing relationships with clients, partners and suppliers, driving a culture of customer centricity.
• Working closely with Practice Directors, Delivery Directors, Business Directors and Business Development to shape strategy and secure future work.
• Supporting bidding activity, including mobilisation and demobilisation of new contracts.
• Deputising for the Sector Director as required.

People & Resource Leadership

• Forecasting resource needs and working with Practice Leads to ensure capability is aligned to pipeline and delivery plans.
• Providing leadership to project and programme teams, supporting talent development and workforce planning.
• Championing a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture aligned to the Amey Zero Code.

What You Will Bring to Us

We are looking for someone with significant experience in consulting delivery, portfolio leadership and market development, ideally with established relationships in at least one of the target new markets (Energy, Defence, Aviation or Healthcare).

Qualifications

• Degree qualified or equivalent experience.
• Professional qualifications desirable (APM, PRINCE2, Chartered Engineer/Manager, MBA or equivalent).

Skills & Experience

• Strong track record of delivering and growing consulting design or engineering portfolios.
• Experience developing new markets, identifying opportunities and securing new business.
• Demonstrable experience leading complex programmes and significant P&Ls.
• Commercially astute with strong contractual, financial and risk management skills.
• Influential, collaborative leader experienced in matrix organisations.
• Strong communication, relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience managing large portfolios to time, budget and quality.
• Evidence of continuous improvement, problem-solving capability and delivery excellence.
