The Team and Role
Amey and Sheffield City Council are working together in partnership to upgrading and maintaining the condition of the city’s roads, pavements, streetlights, bridges, and other assets on or around the streets. It's the largest highway investment contract ever seen in Sheffield, worth over £2bn. It began in 2012 and runs for 25 years. The contract has already transformed 75 per cent of the city’s roads within the first five years, turning them from some of the worst in the country to the best. We are now maintaining the infrastructure at its improved standard for the remaining years of the contract.
We are improving and maintaining 1,180 miles of road, 2,050 miles of pavement, 68,000 streetlights, 36,000 highway trees, 28,000 street signs, 72,000 drainage gullies, 480 traffic signals, 18,000 items of street furniture, 2.9 million sqm of grass verges and over 600 bridges and highway structures.
We have around 500 operatives and office staff working round the clock on these services as well as getting involved in lots of community, charity, education, and social values work across the city region.
You will work alongside the team to:
- Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation
- Deliver works programme to the contract requirements
- Assist the Project Manager in directing design team members to ensure programme milestones are achieved
- Undertake design duties for highway remediation schemes
- Use construction solutions that cause minimum disruption to traffic
- Effectively planning and using supervisory resources
- Maintain procedures to achieve certainty of programme delivery
- Liaise with others regarding supervision of works, including establishing required resource levels
- Aid the Project Manager in controlling and deploying of all associated resources (Plant, Labour, Materials) and ensuring accurate allocation and recording

- Help the Project Manager review design and contractual options during the design process
