Title: Training Manager (Highways)
We’re offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Training Manager to lead our Training function across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a primary base in Central Scotland.
You’ll provide strategic leadership for the regional Training Team while remaining hands-on in delivery, supporting our Transport Infrastructure (Highways) business and ensuring operational, commercial and compliance needs are met. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact while being predominantly Central Scotland–based.
As Training Lead, you will have overall responsibility for the performance, quality and growth of the regional training function. You’ll balance leadership and commercial accountability with a strong delivery presence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the regional Training Team, embedding high performance, collaboration and effective resource planning.
- Owning the commercial performance of the function, including profit, costs and budget control.
- Identifying and developing business growth opportunities, expanding training services into external markets.
- Delivering high-quality training and assessments, with approximately 60% of your time spent in delivery across highways, safety, traffic management and specialist subjects.
- Ensuring compliance with current legislation, industry standards and best practice.
- Monitoring performance trends and supporting the ongoing development of the team.
- Driving continuous improvement across systems, processes and the training portfolio.
- Acting as the lead contact for external audits and providing internal verification of training and assessment delivery.
- Managing relationships with supply chain partners and external training providers.
- Championing health, safety and wellbeing, in line with Amey’s Zero Code, PPE and safe working practices.
What You’ll Bring:
- Strong highways operational knowledge, ideally supported by NVQ Level 6 in Highways & Maintenance.
- A sound background in safety and compliance, with qualifications such as LANTRA Instructor, CDM Awareness, First Aid, and Traffic & Transport Management (TTM).
- Experience managing programmes, budgets and resources while maintaining quality standards.
- Proven supervisory and people management experience.
- The ability to spot and develop operational and commercial growth opportunities.
- Strong communication, influencing and collaboration skills.
- High attention to detail with effective planning and organisational capability.
- Confident IT skills.
Training & Assessment Capability
- Qualified trainer (AET / CET / DET or equivalent).
- Competent Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer (CAVA & IQA).
- Comfortable delivering blended learning using digital platforms.
Accredited Training Experience:
- NHSS 12 A/B/C/D
- NRSWA Operative & Supervisor
- CPC
- Manual Handling
- EUSR
