Title: Operations Assistant
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an Operations Assistant to join our North East account on a permanent basis, based at our Forfar Depot.
Our NMC NE account was awarded to us in August 2022 to support Transport Scotland. We will deliver improved levels of service to the trunk road network, aiming to ensure consistent, predictable and reliable journeys for road users. Works will cover maintenance, road safety, bridges and structures and discrete improvement schemes whilst considering the Scottish Government’s climate change and sustainability targets.
As an Operations Assistant, you will provide key support to the Forfar Operational Supervisor and the wider Operational Team, playing a vital role in the day‑to‑day coordination and delivery of highways operations.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide operational support to Highways Supervisors and the wider Operations Management team
- Coordinate the hiring and off‑hiring of plant, ensuring compliance and monitoring of hire equipment
- Prepare and complete operational briefs and permits
- Support winter maintenance activities, including accurate record keeping
- Deputise for Supervisors when required
- Maintain and update records within operational information systems
- Assist with incident investigations
- Prepare completed works information for Commercial teams
- Support works planning, commissioning, and associated record keeping
- Process and plan material orders and invoices
- Ensure gangs accurately record works completed to allow correct client claims and ‘as built’ records
- Arrange, process, and submit timesheets in a timely manner
- Quantify and order materials, plant, and equipment in advance to support delivery
- Arrange sub‑contractors in conjunction with the Commercial team
- Coordinate employee training in line with the training matrix
- Support recruitment activities, including interviewing prospective employees
What You’ll Bring:
- SVQ Level 3 (desirable – training can be provided)
- Competent user of Microsoft Office
- Good understanding of client requirements and service delivery needs
- Strong liaison, interpersonal, and customer relationship skills
- Team coordination and people management skills
- Commercial awareness
- Basic planning and programming skills for sequencing works
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Willingness to participate in emergency response and winter service delivery
- Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving
- CDM 2015 awareness (desirable – training can be provided)
- SSSTS (desirable – training can be provided)
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
