We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Systems Engineer (Rail) to join our Systems Engineering, Information Management and Rail Engineering Management practice, within our Consulting Engineering division. Key Projects

 

As an appointed Design Partner on some of the UK’s most significant and complex rail and highways infrastructure projects, we are proud to support major programmes such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, Northwest & Central Framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans‑Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail.

 

Our in‑house engineering teams deliver design and systems solutions across all Network Rail project stages and multiple disciplines, driving improved connectivity, enhancing passenger journeys, and shaping the future of infrastructure safety and efficiency.

What you will be doing:

 

Our Systems Engineers are a key part of Amey’s Systems Engineering capability, working closely with clients such as Network Rail and other major infrastructure organisations.

 

You will support the delivery of wholesystem engineering solutions, contributing to effective integration across infrastructure, rolling stock, operations and maintenance.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Applying Systems Engineering principles and techniques to support the definition, integration and delivery of complex, multi‑disciplinary rail engineering solutions
  • Supporting requirements management and Verification & Validation (V&V) activities, including:
    • Developing and managing project requirements derived from the Client Remit
    • Maintaining traceability and requirement satisfaction across multiple system levels
    • Supporting the apportionment of requirements into delivery work packages
    • Assisting with verification activities and supporting system validation
  • Supporting the integration of infrastructure change with Operations and Maintenance organisations
  • Supporting systems integration testing activities
  • Assisting in the production and implementation of:
    • Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP)
    • Systems Integration Plans (SIP)
    • RAM / SRAM Plans, including support to setting RAM targets
  • Preparing and contributing to technical reports, studies and programmes of work
  • Supporting the application of CDM Regulations and Safe by Design principles
  • Working collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary project teams and supporting knowledge sharing

 

We want to hear from you if you have:

 

  • Experience applying systems engineering processes within complex rail or major infrastructure environments
  • Experience supporting requirements management and Verification & Validation (V&V) activities on multidisciplinary rail projects
  • Experience working within the rail sector, or closely aligned infrastructure systems
  • An understanding of managing interfaces across rail infrastructure, rolling stock, operations and maintenance
  • Experience using requirements management tools such as Bentley ComplyPro or IBM DOORS (desirable)
  • The ability to deliver technically robust engineering outputs in line with railway standards, assurance processes and client requirements
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams, with knowledge of one or more railway infrastructure disciplines
  • A good understanding of rail design processes, design assurance and change control procedures
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations, systems safety and CSMREA (desirable)
  • An understanding of engineering management principles for railway infrastructure delivery
  • Progress toward Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent professional development
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline, or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, clientfocused approach
