Your New Role:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Senior Environment & Sustainability Manager to join our Regional Accommodation Maintenance Service (RAMS) contract, part of the MOD's Future Defence Infrastructure Services (FDIS) based from home but with a requirement to travel nationwide across the contract to support operational and project teams. 

The Environment & Sustainability Business Partner plays an important role in setting agendas and leading initiatives to ensure we meet the Group and/or Business Unit (BU) environment and sustainability goals. The post holder will provide ‘value-added’ technical, specialist environment and sustainability support to the Director and their senior leadership team so that they can effectively discharge their responsibilities specifically relating to sustainability, environmental compliance and best practice.

 

The standard hours of work are 37.5 Per Week

You will be responsible for:

Collaboration - working with environment and sustainability professionals across Amey, our clients, our key partners and our supply chain to deliver compliant, resilient and industry best practice solutions across our value chain, helping reduce the environmental impact of our construction, operation and maintenance activities.

Strategy - being the ultimate ‘go to’ person for their sector for understanding, knowledge, technical compliance and competence matters to meet all internal and external E&S commitments.  Partnering with senior leaders and operational teams to reduce the environmental impact of our operations.

Maintaining Professional Standards - working with Operational Leaders and their teams to maintain ISO 14001 certification, including staying abreast of developments in legislation, regulation and industry best practice. Ensuring environmental issues are identified and factored into decision-making processes.  Developing, reviewing and revising appropriate policies and procedures.  Work with the operational teams to identify, manage and mitigate environmental risks and opportunities – ecology is a particular area of focus for the RAMS contract.

Incident / Accident Investigations – providing direction and oversight where appropriate to ensure incidents are comprehensively investigated.  Identifying and implementing effective preventive actions through a process of root cause analysis.

Assurance - monitor the business E&S strategy, its implementation and performance requirements and apply specialist technical knowledge to observe and audit as necessary to identify areas of strength and weakness.  To support and undertake E&S performance monitoring, analysis and evaluation, writing reports and making recommendations to the sector senior leaders to drive continual improvement.

Engagement - ensure Amey’s framework for behaviour and competence is implemented and mandated standards for environmental training are maintained.  Additionally, directly engage in the design and delivery of E&S training solutions and the role out of E&S employee engagement / culture programmes.

Work Winning, Bids, Mobilisations and De-mobilisations - support work winning activities by contributing to bid writing and providing E&S solutions, including environmental compliance requirements. Also contribute to the development of E&S case studies to support the bid writing process.  Ensure that mobilisations and demobilisations take place in compliance with Amey’s E&S requirements.

We want to hear from you if you have:

 

  • Provided proactive and professional support and acting as the ‘subject matter expert’ for E&S compliance and best environmental practice with a good knowledge of ecology, particularly bats in the built environment
  • Formed good relationships with senior operational leaders to formulate effective compliance and improvement plans aligned to corporate E&S strategy and those of our customers
  • Acted as a commercially aware, focused, business-minded partner to affect the sensible application of environmental management and compliance
  • Worked collaboratively with a network of E&S Business Partners (or equivalent) across organisations to ensure best practice environmental solutions are shared throughout the business
  • Contributed to driving sustainable culture change through the short and long term planning of sustainable activity and resources
  • Has experience in developing and implementing new working methods and initiatives that could improve environmental compliance across the business
  • Has strong business acumen and previous experience of a diverse and complex operating business
  • ISO 14001 Lead Auditor (Essential)
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication, organisation, people and project management skills
  • A skilled communicator at all levels with an ability to influence behaviours and create positive environment and sustainability outcomes
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Solid administration and IT Skills - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s in relevant field such as environment, sustainability or engineering
  • Chartered Environmentalist (CENV)
  • Managerial (Full) Membership of IEMA or equivalent membership of a professional organisation
