We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an Project Control Technician Apprentice to join our SBIM account based in South Gloucestershire. 

 

Starting Salary: £24,920.81 per annum

Location: Severn Bridge Maintenance Unit, Bridge Access Road, Aust, South Gloucestershire, BS35 4BD

Working hours per week: Monday-Friday 8am - 4:30pm Potential for Night and Weekend Work.

As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto the Project Controls Technician Level 3 programme, which takes approximately 39 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered college, with 1‑2‑1 guidance, e‑learning materials, and a team of experts on hand to provide advice and technical knowledge in your workplace.

Severn Bridges is working in partnership with National Highways on the Specialist Bridges Inspection & Maintenance contract across three major structures in the Southwest of England over a 15‑year period. This includes: M5 Avonmouth Bridge, M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and M48 Severn Bridge. 

We are responsible for cyclic maintenance, daily structural inspection checks, safety patrols, and responding to incidents affecting structural integrity. 

  

 

What you will do: 

To support the Project Controls team in the planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting of maintenance and inspection works across the SBIM contract. The role provides structured development in project controls, enabling the apprentice to gain practical experience while working towards a recognised qualification.

 

The apprentice will develop:

  • Fundamental understanding of project lifecycle and planning principles
  • Basic use of planning tools (Primavera P6 / MS Project)
  • Skills in data collection, validation, and reporting
  • Understanding of health, safety, and construction environments
  • Core competencies in:

 

    • Scheduling support
    • Progress tracking
    • Document control
    • Stakeholder communication

 

  • Assist in development and maintenance of project programmes (Primavera P6/MSP).
  • Support progress data collection and validation from site teams.
  • Assist in tracking planned vs actual performance and identifying variances.
  • Support production of reports and dashboards (Power BI / Excel).
  • Assist with NEC programme requirements (Clause 31/32 support).
  • Maintain accurate records and programme updates.
  • Support continuous improvement and digital initiatives within project controls.

 

 

What you will bring: 

  • Level 2 or GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher in Maths and English
  • Full UK driving licence. 
  • Basic IT skills including Excel and Word.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Interest in construction/infrastructure delivery
