Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrical Operative to join our Wakefield Street Lighting account. This role is based onsite in Wakefield, and your home depot will be Altofts Road, Normanton WF6 2XA
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 4pm)
We are the Street Lighting PFI Service Provider for Wakefield Metropolitan District Council and have recently commenced a large project to retrofit low energy LED lighting to help Wakefield meet their pledge to become a carbon neutral organisation by 2038. The main purpose of this role is to undertake electrical installation works associated with the LED upgrade project. This will involve the removal of the existing luminaires and cabling and replacement with new LED luminaires, associated cabling, and a Central Management System (CMS).
From time to time you will also be required to undertake street lighting maintenance work to ensure we keep the lights on and meet the contractual requirements of the PFI Performance Standards. You will also be required to undertake the installation and removal of all illuminated equipment on the highway network, including street lighting, illuminated signs and feeder pillars this includes all associated wiring.
You will be responsible for:
- Assist in the electrical testing of street lighting apparatus and cables.
- Install electrical equipment including LED lanterns.
- Excavate holes for foundations
- Completion of required electrical test sheets and work records.
- Working at heights of up to 12 metres.
- High demand for physical tasks including digging.
- The job requires regular contact with Statutory Undertakers’ operatives and members of the public.
- Responsibility for the security of plant, tools and materials, safe use of vehicles and for wearing all PPE.
- Responsible for your own health and safety and that of the public. Working outdoors in an environment of varying weather and temperatures.
- There will be a requirement to work some unsociable hours and overtime.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- Full UK driving licence (HGV License preferable)
- Must be able to work outdoors in challenging weather conditions
- Experienced working with electrical installations within the public realm & highways
- City & Guilds Level 2 or equivalent in Electrical Installation
- Have relevant CSCS / ECS Card
