The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Drainage Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team in Staffordshire.

Amey Consulting provide design and other support services to Staffordshire County Council (SCC) and developers across the whole of the County through our Infrastructure+ contract with SCC. The team manage a large portfolio of work, ranging from detailed design of £1m+ projects to technical checking and site supervision on behalf of our client SCC. This role offers a unique opportunity to follow projects through from inception to construction developing your career in Highway design and construction in a fast paced, collaborative and supportive team. This role requires strong experience of designing highways and infrastructure projects.

 

The role

Our Drainage Infrastructure Engineers play an important part within the Highways Design team and alongside our client, Staffordshire County Council. As an Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of highways drainage schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers. Responsibilities include:

  • Building hydraulic models using Causeway Flow and the checking the work of junior staff
  • Preparing feasibility and detailed design submissions, fielding technical queries during the construction stage and project close out
  • To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions
  • Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme
  • Support effective health and safety practices within the team

 

What you will bring to us:

  • Successful completion of a Degree Apprenticeship programme or an employer led early careers development programme, with a degree of progress through a programme of initial professional development leading towards Incorporated or Chartered status.
  • Custom input e.g. Knowledge of drainage design processes and procedures relevant to the civil engineering discipline
  • Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working without significant supervision and moving towards overseeing more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks
  • Experienced in following procedures associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Has knowledge and understanding of technical and specification processes and is starting to take ownership for the production of deliverables with appropriate supervision
  • Good competence with relevant software and similar analytical tools
  • Has a basic understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of the different interfaces on projects
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject
