Highways Maintenance Operative

Your New Role 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent, Highways Maintenance Operative to join our team in Sheffield. This role is based on site at Olive Grove Depot, Olive Grove Road, Sheffield, S2 3GE.

Amey operates the Streets Ahead Highways Maintenance and Management service across Sheffield, which is one of the UK’s largest local government highways partnerships. We are improving and maintaining 1,180 miles of road, 2,050 miles of pavement, 68,000 street lights, 36,000 highway trees, 28,000 street signs, 72,000 drainage gullies, 480 traffic signals, 18,000 items of street furniture, 2.9 million sqm of grass verges and over 600 bridges and highway structures. 

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday, 6am - 2:30pm)

You will be responsible for:

• Performing various highway maintenance tasks, including carriageway and footway patching, kerbing, ironwork replacement, and drainage maintenance. 

• Attending work briefings to receive instructions and guidance on driving/operating vehicles and plant equipment with both general and specialized skills. 

• Participating in 24hr standby rotations during summer and winter for incident response, winter maintenance services, precautionary gritting, and snow clearance. 

• Allocating and tracking time and resource utilisation in accordance with the operated allocation system. 

• Keeping accurate records and completing all necessary paperwork, maintaining communication and liaising with Amey employees, sub-contractors, emergency services, police, clients, and customers. 

We want to hear from you if you have:

• Experience in roads and/or street works  

• A full UK driving licence (essential)

• Desirable to have 12D M1-M2 (High-Speed Traffic Management) competency, though not mandatory as we provide required development.
