We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Level 2 Arborist Apprentice to join our dynamic Sheffield team.

 

Job Title: Arborist Apprentice – Level 2

Duration: 21 months

Starting Salary: £23,926 (subject to 2025 review)

Working Hours: Mon -Fri 09:00 - 17:00

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Working as part of a small team, you’ll be responsible to carry out all aspects of highways tree maintenance.
  • Use of chainsaws
  • Tree climbing and aerial rescue.
  • Storm clearance
  • Stump grinding.
  • Tree planting and young tree maintenance.
  • Operate light plant and power tools.
  • Drive, operate vehicles, plant, machinery as required.
  • Install and maintain traffic management systems.
  • Carry out any other duties which may reasonably be expected/requested.
  • Undertake vehicle and small plant checks.
  • subcontractors, the emergency services, the public, clients and customers.

What You’ll Bring:

 

Qualifications

  • Level 1 in English and Maths, or GCSE in grade of 2-3 (E-D)
  • Candidates without Level 1 in English and Maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for level 2 English and maths prior to taking the end-point assessment

 

Skills

  • Full driving license.
  • Basic knowledge of gardening and horticulture operations
  • Customer Care
  • Ability to carry out specific tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Passion for developing your skills both professional and personally.
  • Ability to operate light plant and equipment and wheeled tractors.
  • Awareness of customer care, dealing with the public and customers and or their agents
  • Have the enthusiasm to be part of a high performing team and a drive for success.

 

Experience

  • Sound knowledge of H&S as it applied within the Arboriculture Maintenance operations including required competency skills certification for task employed to undertake.
  • General awareness of requirements with regards to working on site with children.
  • Use of pesticides (desirable)
  • Use of chain saws, including tree surgery
  • Used to working outdoors in all weather conditions.

 

Behavioural competencies

  • Good communicator
  • Ability to supervise other team members.
  • Awareness of customer care, dealing with the public and customers and or their agents

 

Technical Competencies

  • Personal Highways Safety
  • Emergency first aid a work (HSE)
  • Environmental Awareness too box talk
  • Medicals – other
