Title: Principal Operations Manager
We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Principal Operations Manager for our Strategic Highways, Area 10 maintenance and response contract across the Northwest.
As Principal Operations Manager, you will play a key leadership role, driving performance, innovation, and services for our client and customers. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and a proven ability to lead large teams within a dynamic environment.
The Area 10 contract covers the maintenance and improvement of motorways and major roads in the Northwest of England, ensuring they remain safe, efficient, and reliable for all users.
The standard hours of work are 37.5 per week on a hybrid basis.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Shape and deliver the contract, ensuring alignment with overall strategy and close collaboration with the Account Director, the client and contract teams.
- Lead all aspects of financial management, including P&L and balance sheet oversight, and take responsibility for achieving and improving agreed margins and cash flows.
- Manage and motivate a team of approximately 200 employees, optimising the use of resources such as fleet, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Provide visible leadership on account, conduct regular site visits and performance reviews, providing clear management data and actionable insights to drive operational excellence.
- Champion service excellence by sharing best practices, identifying opportunities for profit improvement, and positioning the contract as a strong reference site for future bids.
- Oversee the supply chain, fostering robust relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure high-quality delivery and profitability.
- Uphold rigorous compliance with health and safety standards and ensure that business goals are effectively communicated across the contract area.
- Promote a customer-centric culture, proactively understanding and exceeding client requirements while supporting continuous improvement throughout the operation.
