Your New Role

 

We have an exciting role for a highly motivated Principal Construction Manager to join our dynamic team in Area 10 based across North West of England, specifically located in one of our locations in Runcorn, Warrington, West Houghton, Milnrow and Hale. Collaborating closely with our client National Highways, Amey takes pride in delivering top-tier Maintenance and Response services, catering to the extensive network across the North West.

 

Our responsibilities encompass all routine and cyclic maintenance operations on the trunk roads and motorways, covering an impressive estate that includes 1450km of motorway and dual carriageway trunk roads, and approx. 500 structures.

 

This pivotal role will be responsible for overseeing the scheme delivery of a portfolio of various Highways/Civils projects from inception to completion. This role requires strong leadership, project and financial management, and technical expertise in engineering and health and safety.  You will play a crucial part in upholding the safety, quality, and reliability our extensive road networks.

 

The standard hours of work are 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday)

 

You will be responsible for:

 

  • Manage the entire planning and development process for schemes projects, ensuring compliance with client, regulatory requirements and Amey standards.
  • Provide expert guidance on Construction, Design, and Management (CDM) regulations and ensure health and safety compliance throughout all project phases.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including planners, supervisors, and subcontractors, to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement project schedules, budgets, and resource plans, monitoring progress and addressing any issues or delays proactively.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on KPI’s/KRI’s for the portfolio of works to the client on a frequent basis.
  • Ensure that regular site inspections and quality assessments take place to ensure that work is carried out to the highest standards.
  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders internally and externally such as - government agencies, senior client representative, key officials and local communities.
  • Ability to act as the Principal Designer, leading the design coordination efforts and ensuring that any designs meeting project objectives and industry standards.

We want to hear from you if you have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Hold or be working towards a recognised (ICE, CIHT, IStructE) civil engineering professional qualification.
  • Hold an APM or Prince2 qualification, or experience applying the methodology 
  • Track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, and environmental responsibility.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage teams and resolve conflict
  • Ability to organise and lead a project team, facilitate decision making on complex issues among multiple parties.
  • Ability to lead and manage performance of team members through engaging and inspiring interactions.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills. You will have the ability to build rapport and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Able to demonstrate strong management skills including construction management, project management, financial and change management.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead on the development and monitoring of temporary works and lifting plans reviews.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction methodologies, CDM regulations, and health and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel across the North West.
