Title: Regional Building Surveyor
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a 12 Month Fixed Term contract for a Regional Building Surveyor covering Central West, including Chester, Llanfair, Stafford, Telford, Hereford, Brecon and Chepstow.
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 Per week, Monday to Friday

The Regional Building Surveyor is responsible for delivering professional surveying services across a designated region within the defence housing estate. This role involves undertaking a range of technical surveys, providing expert advice, preparing specifications, and supporting the delivery of planned and reactive works. The postholder will provide technical expertise, undertake a range of specialist surveys, and support the effective planning and delivery of refurbishment and remediation works.
What you will do:
- Undertake comprehensive stock condition surveys across Service Families Accommodation (SFA)
- Assess building components, lifecycle performance, and compliance with statutory and MOD standards.
- Produce accurate, auditable survey data to inform asset management strategies and investment planning.
- Conduct pre‑project inspections to define scope, constraints, and technical requirements for planned works.
- Identify risks, dependencies, and site‑specific considerations relevant to defence housing environments.
- Provide clear, evidence‑based recommendations to support project feasibility and design development.
- Prepare detailed survey and scopes to allow the production of technical specifications, schedules of work by others and supporting documentation for procurement and delivery.
- Ensure all specifications align with MOD policy, building regulations, and relevant industry standards.
- Provide authoritative technical advice to internal teams, and stakeholders across the defence housing portfolio.
- Support the resolution of complex technical queries, design issues.
- Assist in the development and continuous improvement of technical standards, processes, and compliance frameworks.
- Investigate and diagnose building defects using recognised surveying methodologies.
- Identify root causes and propose robust, cost‑effective remedial solutions.
- Produce clear, structured defect reports.
- Apply building pathology principles to assess deterioration, material performance, and structural behaviour within defence housing stock.
- Monitor recurring issues and contribute to long‑term asset resilience and preventative maintenance strategies.
- Support the development of technical insights to inform future investment and risk mitigation.

- Proven experience in building surveying, ideally within defence, public sector, or large‑scale residential portfolios.
- Strong technical knowledge of building construction, materials, and relevant legislation.
- Experience preparing specifications and technical documentation for procurement and delivery.
- Demonstrable capability in diagnosing building defects and applying building pathology principles.
- Professional membership (e.g., MRICS/MCIOB) or working towards accreditation is desirable.
- Ability to manage a regional workload, including travel across multiple defence housing sites.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
