Title:  Control Systems Technician

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Control Systems Technician to join our dynamic AIW/IM team at Treforest. On-site, 40 hrs per week - averaged over a 6-week period.

 

In this role, you will support the team Leader in organising and motivating the team to ensure safe, efficient, and standards-compliant work. Perform assigned maintenance, and renewal tasks and fault finding of signalling and Telecoms equipment. Serve as Team Leader when required.

 

This role offers the unique opportunity to work on the Core Valley Lines, currently the biggest investment in public transport infrastructure in Wales, working as part of a team maintaining the network within the newly electrified railway that forms the backbone of the South Wales Metro.

 

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, Signalling and Telecoms standards (SMS and SMTH) or other relevant instructions.
  • Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent including – assigned maintenance, and renewal tasks of signalling and telecoms equipment.
  • Attend failures and investigate faults to rectify as required.
  • Control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
  • Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies.
  • Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.
  • Ensure all test equipment is correctly calibrated.
  • Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required.

What You’ll Bring:

 

  • Knowledge of Signalling and Telecoms - faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques.
  • Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
  • Knowledge of how to organise and control the safe and efficient delivery of work.
  • Conversant with standards, procedures and instructions.
  • Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need (Track safety, Signalling and Telecoms)
  • Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience.
  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
  • Ideally hold (or be working towards) an IRSE license.
  • Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
  • Able to lead, motivate and direct a team.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
