We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Assistant Commercial Manager in the Scottish Schools Account.

Based in Paisley with flexible working and site visits across Glasgow & Edinburgh, Scotland.

HOURS OF WORK 37.5 Hours per week, Monday to Friday

Join our vibrant, inclusive community in Commercial working and assisting the Commercial Team in the delivery of all contractual and commercial duties.  Taking the appropriate responsibility and accountability in conjunction with Operations and Finance counterparts. Using knowledge and understanding of governance and legislation to ensure the recovery of contractual entitlement. Provide support and contribution to both Supply Chain procurements and Work Winning activities.

 

What you will do:

  • Apply the Amey “Zero Harm” Safety Culture and support delivery of the account Target Zero Action Plans.
  • Assist in the delivery of commercial best practice with risk, change, cost, and value management
  • Contribute to the identification, mitigation and management of opportunity and risk.
  • Work with Finance to ensure the full cost control of project(s) including providing and monitoring budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the senior Commercial and Operational teams, assisting in the delivery of all commercial activities on the project including CVR reporting and WIP management in line with contractual entitlement.
  • Be accountable for delivery of key commercial tasks as part of the wider commercial reporting requirement.
  • Assist and advise the Commercial and Operational account management in ensuring timely issuing of all notices required under the Contract(s).
  • Be pro-active in identifying the existence of all variations (changes) to the works, or any “claim” and “extension of time” situations in conjunction with other project team members.
  • Ensure that all contemporary records are kept by the project team members for use in supporting claims, extensions of time, and the evaluation of variations.
  • Contribute and administer the creation of robust coding structure to facilitate accurate cost capture in conjunction with the Senior/Commercial Manager.
  • Produce monthly and/or weekly cost and value data to support forecasts to completion of the project(s), KPI measures, Applications for Payment as directed.
  • Work within time periods required under the Contract(s) and as required by the Company.
  • Ensure compliance with all company polices and to the Amey systems, processes, and procedures on Contracts of varying sizes.
  • To support the procurement and management of subcontractors
  • Support and assist in the management of the subcontract procurement and payment process in accordance with the governance and fair payment processes
  • Take the lead on client change requests (Variations)

 

What you will bring:

  • Hold or enrolled on a quantity surveying, commercial or related profession, degree or master’s degree, is desirable but not mandatory
  • Completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and progression to Technical/Member status of the relevant professional institutions will be an expectation of the role
  • Able to apply Health and Safety compliance and knowledge of Health, Safety, Welfare and Environmental awareness Legislation
  • Good commercial and financial acumen
  • Basic knowledge and understanding the various forms of contracts & legislation
  • Awareness of industry issues
  • Good communicator and developing negotiation skills
  • Understands, demonstrates, and promotes an inclusive working environment
  • Some commercial management or quantity surveying experience or equivalent transferrable profession
  • Evidence of previous experience of work with suppliers or customers on financial and contract management of projects
  • Previous work with financial, commercial and / or contract management of projects
