Starting salary: £23, 097 (subject to 2025 review)

Shift pattern: Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm

The Team and Role

 

Amey is working in partnership with National Highways since 2016. We maintain over 700 kilometres providing maintenance and response across a vast area of some of the UK's busiest motorways and strategic highways in the East Midlands and north of England. As many as 180,000 vehicles a day use certain sections of this vital network. Our team of 200+ provide vital maintenance and respond to incidents to keep the travelling public moving ensuring the 4.5 million citizens across the East Midlands experience better and safer journeys every day.

As a Highways Planning Apprentice, your overall objective of this role is to ensure the effective delivery and maintenance of infrastructure services within Area 7.

 

As an Apprentice, you will work alongside the team to:

  • Assist in the development and management of all relevant programmes
  • Track progress, incorporate changes and forecast delivery dates
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic reports, statistics, and answers to enquiries concerning the programmes
  • Ensure high standards of programming are carried out to meet client and contract requirements
  • Develop and improve working practices and seek innovative solutions
  • Receive and process works orders, and work with internal teams to prepare sites for programming
  • Assist with resource programming, to ensure that work can be released for delivery on site
  • Allocation of works orders for Pre-Site Inspection, programming or return to client for further information
  • Deliver and continuously improve service levels
  • Maximise the productivity of the resources through reduction in wasted time, materials and operational cost
  • Review works orders for compliance with SLA/Contract compliance
  • Liaison with works order generator in case of queries
  • Co-ordinate labour, plant, materials, supply chain, permits, risk assessments, safety compliance, traffic management, with others where appropriate
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by the Senior Planner, or the wider business.

What We Need From You

 

  • England-based applicants will typically require at least 5 GCSEs at Grades A*-C / 9-4 including Maths (Grade B / 5 or 6), English, and Science or their equivalent. Applicants based in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland should expect to demonstrate an equivalent level of academic qualifications to those required in England.
  • A Full UK driving License
