The Team and Role

The Specialist Bridges team are a part of Amey Consulting’s Highways Sector. They are National Highways’ design partners to support the delivery of their renewals programme on their major structures: Severn Crossing, Prince of Wales Bridge, and Avonmouth Bridge. The fifteen year ‘SBIM’ contract enables National Highways to procure Design and Construction services from Amey for the next 12 years.

 

The SBIM contract generates a large portfolio of schemes varying in complexity from simple steelwork and reinforced concrete design to highly complex vibration analysis and wind-tunnel testing. Our SBIM contract can offer graduates the chance to fast-track their structural engineering career with access to some of the most exciting structural analysis work in the country.

 

As a Graduate, you will work alongside the team to:

  • Develop effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief 
  • Undertake a wide range of design work on all aspects of design and maintenance 
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements 
  • Progress projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements and innovation 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations 
  • Assist with contract preparation together with project planning and programming 
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees 
  • Support the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts 
  • Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees  
  • Effective management and response of project related correspondence  
  • Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in development  
  • Prepare and check of feasibility studies, appraisal / assessment reports and other written documents 
  • Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options 
  • All on some of the most complex and challenging structures in the world!

  • A degree (minimum 2:1) in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related degrees.
