The Opportunity

 

Amey have successfully secured an opportunity to support the Ministry of Works (MoW) Bahamas to develop their infrastructure and asset management capability. MoW recognises the unique capability within Amey and the benefits we can bring to help them overcome some of their significant infrastructure challenges and we are working closely with the MoW to agree a minimum 3-year Framework.  A major part of our commission is to provide support in the replacement of the iconic Glass Window Bridge which is falling into disrepair, and we have already commenced work on this in the UK.

 

The broad scope of our work is:

 

  • Technical Support to help delivery of the Glass Window Bridge Replacement
  • Scheme Programme Development and Delivery
  • Transformation of MoW systems and processes
  • Funding
  • Urban development

 

We are in the process of mobilising a core team in the Bahamas to work with the MoW to develop a deliverable and fundable programme of work (under the above activities), develop relations, and further opportunities. This presents some fantastic career opportunities.

 

This role is focused on the delivery of schemes, through the contract preparation, procurement of contractor(s), contract administration and management through construction and handover.

 

The role

 

As the Bahamas based Project Manager for this opportunity, you will be responsible for supporting the Deliver Director to manage the following activities on a day-to-day basis:

 

  • Assist the DD with overall country management and mobilisation of Glass Window Bridge site support team, and other schemes tbc
  • Relationship management with MoW and other potential clients
  • Providing excellent client relationship management, liaising with the client and other GoB representatives.
  • Ensure schemes and associated projects are being delivered in line with proposals.
  • Identify opportunities for growing the team and other work scope.
  • Report on overall performance internally and externally (Client)
  • Provide overall direction for the team.
  • Identify resource needs.
  • Co-ordinate work activities with all parties
  • Develop relationships with key GWB supply chain
  • Assist the DD with financial management for P&L on GWB project
  • Overall responsibility for development and delivery of GWB programme
  • Leading the development of form contract to enable procurement of a contractor for construction of GWB (and other schemes tbc)
  • Working with MoW through a procurement and tender assessment process for GWB, assessment of suitability of potential suppliers, providing advice to GoB on selection (and other schemes tbc)
  • Undertake NEC PM role (or equivalent) role for MoW
  • Lead a site-based team of approximately 14 staff to undertake the following Contract Administration activities throughout construction, these including:
    • Design liaison and interface
    • Review of contractor’s method statements
    • Review of contractor’s inspection and testing regime
    • Undertake quality audits on contractor’s processes and procedures
    • Progress monitoring and reporting in line with the Client’s requirements
    • Programme management, review of contractor’s programme
    • Commercial management. Administer processes for valuation and payment certification, EWN and Change Control
    • Financial Management. Administer payment and drawdown of funds via UKEF
    • Stakeholder Management

 

The successful candidate will hold an appropriate professions qualification (CEng, MICE or equivalent), have significant experience in client representation, project management, work on site and in the construction phases of contracts, and have held previous project management positions.  Ideally, but not essential, will have overseas experience in these areas and have NEC project manager accreditation.  The candidate will also have wide ranging experience in the management of contracts generally such as NEC and ideally FIDIC.

 

 

How will we support you?

 

This role requires in country presence starting early 2025 through to at least December 2027 with potential opportunity to extend the role beyond this date on other contracts. Amey will offer all necessary support regarding immigration, visas and relocation and specific packages will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
