Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for Principal Commercial Manager – Subcontractor Governance to join the Group Hub on a full time, permanent basis. This role will be based in our Liverpool office and offers hybrid working.
The purpose of the role to lead large frameworks with the responsibility for all contractual and commercial duties. As the Principal Commercial Manager, you will be accountable for adapting strategy compliance within the amey freedom to perform approach to ensure the recovery of contractual entitlement.
On top of this, you will be responsible for the creation of excellent client/supply chain relationships to ensure successful account delivery, aiding change and conflict management.
Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you will have line manager responsibility of around 5 team members, made up of Quantity Surveyors and support staff.
The standard hours of work are based on 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
You will be responsible for:
- Implementing and driving consistency of commercial processes both pre and post contract.
- Developing and implementing commercial best practice to minimise cost / maximise value (in line with all contractual entitlements), minimise risk and cost to Amey and deliver exemplar service to the customer.
- Delivering pre and post contract opportunity and risk management using the businesses risk management tools
- Ensuring that all Contracts/Internal Trading Agreements are fully executed, stored in central repository.
- The execution, management, extension and close of all contract Bond and PCG requirements.
- Adhering to company policies and processes, and those associated with Revenue Recognition and to ensure that all necessary governance is complied with (Amey General Authorities Schedule).
- Supporting the Bid Director and the business stream in winning strategic bids by the development of the right commercial solutions which cascade into post contract delivery.
- Leading or providing commercial support to the business stream to implement commercial strategies that deliver winning bids, achieve good p/l results with sustainable cash flows, managed risk and opportunity across a portfolio of Contracts or bids as applicable.
- Ensuring that the Subcontract Orders mirror the Main Contract
- Ensuring Compliance with CIS / VAT and Domestic Reverse Charging
- Undertaking people management duties including Performance Development Reviews for direct reports and provide year on year improvements in the competency strength and behavioural approach of the Commercial team through regular feedback and development of individuals and the collective team.
- Coaching and developing commercial and non-commercial staff to ensure commercial processes are embedded at all levels of the business
We want to hear from you if you have:
- A degree in a related discipline (Commercial, Quantity Surveying etc)
- Holding RICS would be desirable
- Excellent H&S awareness with the ability to enforce policies and procedures
- Strong commercial and financial acumen
- Detailed knowledge and legal understanding of standard forms of contract and those specific to the support services market
- Knowledge of the UK governments’ agenda for support services including the Outsourcing or Construction Playbooks
- Awareness of the wider industry drivers, direction of travel and competitors
- Extensive experience in a similar role
- People management experience
- Good understanding of Infrastructure Contracts specifically the NEC3 and NEC4, together with the Forms of Subcontract used within the Infrastructure Industry
- Good knowledge of CIS / VAT and Domestic Reverse Charging Legislation, to ensure correct adaption within the Subcontract Order and Compliance
- Construction Act knowledge and understanding
