We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Construction Site Supervisor Apprentice to join our Area 12 account based in Barnsley. 

 

Starting Salary: £29,458.00 per annum (Subject to review) 

Location: Wood View, Sheffield Road, Birdwell, Barnsley, S70 5TT. 

Working hours per week: Monday -Friday, Days and Nights. 07:00 - 15:00 Days, 19:00 - 05:00 Nights. 45hr/week 

Start date: April 2026 

 

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a  Construction Site Supervisor level 4 apprenticeship which will take approximately 39 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered training provider to achieve this qualification, having 1-2-1 advice and support, e-learning materials, and a whole team of experts on hand for advice and technical knowledge at your office.

Amey has been working in partnership with Area 12 Highways England since June 2021. Area 12 is made up of 476km dual carriageway, 179km single carriageway and 1,963 structures.  

We provide routine, cyclic and winter maintenance and response across Yorkshire and Humberside, also overseeing traffic management during incidents and the operation of the ten maintenance depots in the region.  

 

Ensuring our roads are well- maintained and well- managed, through all-weather seasons we aim to help reduce traffic incidents and severity of road accidents as well as ensure road user of Yorkshire and Humberside feel safer. 

 

What you will do: 

 

As a Highways Construction Site Supervisor Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of highway maintenance and construction works within Area 12. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop the skills necessary to supervise and manage highway construction and maintenance projects.  

 

Working with our Operations and Scheme Delivery teams, you’ll support on-site delivery in the construction phase of our projects. You will also learn how we manage the performance on-site of our internal Maintenance and Response teams and specialist supply chain contractors. 

 

  • Assist in the supervision of highway construction and maintenance activities. 

  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. 

  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery. 

  • Monitor and report on project progress, identifying any issues or delays. 

  • Support the preparation of site documentation, including risk assessments and method statements. 

  • Participate in site meetings and contribute to project planning and scheduling. 

  • Learn and apply best practices in highway construction and maintenance. 

 

What you will bring: 

 

  • GCSEs at grade C or 4 including mathematics, English and science, or equivalent.

  • Completed level 3 construction apprenticeships or minimum of 5 years' experience in construction site role 

  • Full UK driver’s license 

  • A keen interest in construction and infrastructure projects. 

  • Willingness to attend training courses and fully participate in activities and related assessments. 

  • DBS requirement
