Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Technician to join our M8 account in Glasgow. This is an onsite role, you must be able to travel to Polmadie, Glasgow. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to essential highways projects with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

 

Our M8 account is working in partnership with Scottish Roads since 2014, we are responsible for completing and upgrading motorway networks and trunk roads in central Scotland.

 

We have this far completed 30 kilometres of motorway network between Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as 12 kilometres of new build road and 16 kilometres of network upgrades. This has resulted of the works being undertaken the new section of road between Glasgow and Edinburgh to help save up to 18 minutes off journeys at peak times for drivers travelling between the two cities.

 

Our aim is to continue to maintain motorway networks and trunk roads through to 2047, to ensure we create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities.

 

The Highways Technician plays an important part providing support and assistance to the team in all relevant aspects of investigation for Structural maintenance schemes, including site visual inspections, liaising with coring contractors and assisting with grip testing operations. This role is ideal for someone with a hands-on approach and a keen interest in highways infrastructure and maintenance.

 

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Please note that this role will include working nights or weekends when required.

 

You will be responsible for:

  • Assist in planning and carrying out visual site inspections.
  • Prepare accurate reports and maintain data to support Statement of Intent (SOI) documentation.
  • Identify potential new schemes and liaise regularly with coring supply chain partners.
  • Support Senior Technicians and Project Managers in scheme investigations and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and the Amey Integrated Management System.

 

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency in CAD for technical drawings and design updates.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data tracking and reporting.
  • Previous experience in site work and supervision within highways or civil engineering.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks under pressure.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work night shifts and weekends as part of a rota or project schedule.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Ideally you will hold an HND/HNC or similar degree in civil engineering to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
