Your New Role

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Ganger to join our NMC SW account in Polmadie.

 

Amey is working in partnership with Transport Scotland Southwest since August 2020, we are responsible for inspections, cyclical maintenance, asset management, scheme delivery as well as winter maintenance and incident response.

 

The team are first on the scene to assist road users on the road network, deliver engineering design and operational delivery services for more than 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures enabling reliable journey times and a high level of customer care for the people and businesses that use these roads every day.

 

By ensuring our roads and highways are well-maintained through all-weather seasons and traffic incidents, we aim to create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities.

 

The Ganger plays an important part in implementing traffic management, assisting the Operatives in undertaking the Highways works. You, as the Team Leader will lead and ensure the teams are utilising the PDAs correctly and effectively and will support in winter maintenance.

 

You will be responsible for:

 

  • Carrying out a wide range of general maintenance tasks e.g., traffic management and general maintenance duties
  • Driving/operating vehicles/plant requiring general and specialist skills including vehicle checks, routine maintenance, (e.g., oil and water checks) and cleaning
  • Keeping records, complete all necessary paperwork, communicate, and liaising with other employees of Amey, sub-contractors, the emergency services, the police, the public, clients, and customers
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and manage and mentor apprentices and operatives and coordinate the work of others
  • Other duties, as required to supervise and support the operatives directly under their control contributing to overall service delivery to a defined programme of work activity

 

We want to hear from you if you are self- motivated and pro-active in terms of delivering solutions, supported by your good leadership qualities.

 

Ideally you will hold the appropriate CSCS card or equivalent competency card CITB Site Safety Management with experience in Chapter 8 and Traffic Management on High-speed roads NRSWA Personal Highway Safety Certificate –12AB Foreman and hold a valid HGV Class 2 licence with up-to-date CPC.

 

In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have operational knowledge and experience with delivering emergency and winter services whist managing a team to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
