The Opportunity

Amey Consulting is a leading provider of engineering and infrastructure solutions, working across aviation, transport, and public services. Our Airport Infrastructure Team plays a crucial role in designing and maintaining aviation assets, ensuring airports operate efficiently and sustainably. We’re currently looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to join our team and with shared officed in Edinburgh and Glasgow, we welcome applicants from across Scotland.

We are actively working on Edinburgh, AGS (Aberdeen, Glasgow, Southampton), and Cranfield Airports, with a strong pipeline of future opportunities at other UK airports. As part of our team, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping aviation infrastructure across the country.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Engineer to join our Consulting Aviation team. With shared office space in numerous locations in the UK. 

 

The role

As an Engineer you will provide support and assistance a Team of people working within the Pavement and Asset Management Practice to deliver a portfolio of schemes for Clients. You will help design and delivery of multiple projects, including pavement condition assessments and pavement renewal schemes, ensuring the durability and safety of our roadways.

As an Aviation Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing airfield infrastructure to meet our respective client’s needs. This will include pavement investigations and design of airside runways, taxiways and airport stands, as well all design interfaces with all servicing infrastructure (drainage, AGL, HV electrical systems, comms, fuel and fire mains). You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance airport operations and sustainability. The main aspects of the role and key responsibilities are detailed below;

  • Aircraft Pavement Engineering: Assess, design, and rehabilitate airport pavements, using DMG27 and BAA method pavement design principles.
  • Airfield Planning & Design: Develop innovative and efficient airport layout designs, considering operational requirements, safety, environmental impact, and capacity planning.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensure all designs align with aviation regulations, including EASA CS-ADR-DSN, CAP 168, ICAO Annex 14, and other relevant guidelines.
  • Infrastructure Sustainability & Innovation: Support the Team and Clients to develop sustainable solutions for airport facilities, including carbon reduction strategies, drainage systems, and energy-efficient designs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Clients and Contractors to deliver successful infrastructure projects.
  • Project Management & Delivery: Support aviation infrastructure projects throughout their lifecycle from feasibility studies to construction.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
  • The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme. Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
  • Assisting on technical aspects of designs from project initiation through to completion. Assist in reviewing survey data to develop pavement maintenance and rehabilitation plans in collaboration with senior engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications for airfield projects.
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
  • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.

 

What you will bring to us:

·        Degree in Civil Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related field.

·        Experience in airport infrastructure design and airfield planning.

·        Knowledge of aviation regulations and engineering standards.

·        Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

·        Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff

·        Experienced with relevant software (AutoCAD) and similar analytical tools.

·        A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design

·        Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required

·        Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team

·        Working towards Incorporated/Chartered Engineer of a suitable professional affiliation e.g. Institute of Civil Engineers.
