At Amey, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly through expert facilities management. Join us at HMP Long Lartin - a high-security prison with a strong sense of community and purpose. As a Facilities Operative, you'll play a hands-on role in maintaining safe, clean and sustainable prison facilities—supporting everything from waste management and groundskeeping to essential maintenance and environmental initiatives.

What you will do:

  • Carry out general maintenance tasks including painting, decorating, furniture repairs, and DIY duties.
  • Support groundskeeping activities such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, litter picking, and landscaping.
  • Assist tradespeople and contractors on site, including escorting and safety checks.
  • Manage waste and recycling processes, ensuring environmental compliance and cleanliness.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely, including light plant machinery and cutting tools.
  • Maintain sports and recreational areas, including artificial pitch upkeep and drainage works.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met across all tasks and areas.
  • Contribute to sustainability and zero carbon initiatives within the prison environment.

What you will bring:

  • Solid experience in DIY, general building maintenance, and groundskeeping duties.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety legislation, with a safety-conscious and compliant approach.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. CITB, weed spraying, chainsaw operation).
  • Ability to work well in a team, follow instructions, and maintain a professional, client-focused attitude.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and work flexibly, including alongside prisoners in a secure environment.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.

Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process). Please note that this can sometimes take up to 12 weeks to be completed and for a start date to be agreed, should you be successful.
