The Opportunity

 

We, at Amey, are thrilled to announce our expansion across Ireland. With our office located in central Dublin, we are set to grow our presence across the Republic of Ireland over the coming months, building on our existing presence in Northern Ireland. This expansion will bolster our support for a range of major Highway and Railway projects across the island.

 

Our expertise in the asset management, design, procurement, and supervision of major infrastructure in the Highways, railways and property sectors has driven our success. In addition to our offices in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast, we are intensifying our investment in Ireland, and over the past six months, have established a small team of dedicated professionals.

 

Our Director, Rodney Moffett, highlighted recent Government commitments to investments in transport infrastructure, Metrolink, Luas extensions, and BusConnects. Additionally, significant upgrades to electricity infrastructure across the island underscore our strategic decision to invest in Ireland.

The Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Design & Technical Services Lead to join our Consulting design hub in Dublin. This is a hybrid role, offering you flexibility to work between the office and home.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the provision of design and technical services required to support the development and delivery of CBCIW
  • Accountability for establishing and leading an integrated Design and Technical Services function, focussed on ensuring the project meets required technical standards
  • Assume responsibility for overseeing, inter alia, the integration of all design and engineering disciplines, the tender design process, and health and safety and traffic management standards across the project.
  • Assist the NTA’s Design and Technical Services Lead in establishing and leading the Design and Technical Services Functional Area within the CBCIW Client Organisation, providing strategic direction and overseeing the management of a high-performance, integrated Design and Technical Services function
  • Lead the relevant design and technical services sub-functional area teams and will be required to develop and undertake detailed financial and resource planning for the Functional Area
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the activities of CP staff within the function, ensuring they are carrying out their relevant tasks efficiently and effectively to ensure the successful delivery of CBCIW
  • Act as the point of contact between the Design and Technical Services Functional Area and relevant NTA stakeholders and will be required to actively encourage knowledge transfer between CP staff within the Design and Technical Services Functional Area and NTA staff
  • Coordinating all relevant reporting to the PMO and any additional reporting required in line with defined governance arrangements
  • Act as a source of expert advice, supporting the appropriately skilled and experienced resources across the sub-functional areas within the Design and Technical Services function

 

 

What you will bring to us:

  • Extensive experience in design and technical activities with a proven track record of carrying out design and technical activities in high value road and / or infrastructure projects or projects of a similar scale and complexity to CBCIW
  • Further demonstrated experience and knowledge in the following is desirable:
    • Planning, governance, and delivery having managed design teams, setting goals, objectives, and priorities, and establishing clear roles and responsibilities for all direct reports
    • Driving best practice in technical activities, processes, policies, and standards
    • Design and delivery requirements of technically complex projects in the architectural, engineering or construction sectors
    • Managing interfaces on large capital projects
    • Dealing with a range of stakeholders at all levels across the organisation influencing the improvement of process and providing guidance to support project delivery and reporting
    • Quality management and process improvement practices and systems within the construction sector
    • Health and safety management, preferably within a safety critical environment
    • Managing high-performing staff / teams including carrying out performance management, undertaking resource planning and embedding a focus on continuous improvement and best-practice
    • Traffic management, preferably within a live urban environment
  • Ability to successfully lead coordination and delivery on large and complex construction projects
  • Ability to manage multiple technical requirements and teams within a construction environment, and manage technical outputs to drive efficiency
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Civil Engineer & member of relevant engineering professional institution is desirable.
