Your New Role 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Electrical and Maintenance Supervisor to join our Traffic Scotland Infrastructure Contract (TSIC) in Cumbernauld, Glasgow.

 

Our TSIC account is working in partnership with Traffic Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland since 2004. We are responsible for, maintaining, and upgrading all the Traffic Scotland roadside monitoring and control infrastructure.

 

To provide the service, we handle and process asset data and information from multiple sources, and produce numerous reports to assist the contract team, customer, and operational partners to make informed decisions pertaining to the management of the infrastructure.

 

The standard hours of work are Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.

 

The Highways Electrical and Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Operational Team by overseeing planned maintenance works, electrical works and collaborating to facilitate planned maintenance and lifecycle / asset replacement works.  There will be elements of routine, planned and emergency response operations required as part of this role. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Undertake the identification and supervise the implementation of electrical installation and maintenance works to comply with the client’s specifications and standards.
  • Supervision, monitoring and reporting of sub-contractors and site personnel activities and performance. Input to client reports as required. 
  • Adjustment of work allocations in response to emergency incidents, to ensure both emergency response times and maintenance obligations are met
  • Assist in the design of electrical installation schemes when required.
  • As directed by the Maintenance Manager, assistance in the development of maintenance programmes, work patterns and stand-by rosters.
  • Liaison with Transport Scotland and Traffic Scotland control room staff, understanding operational needs and providing / co-ordinating support and technical resources. 
  • Client and stakeholder liaison, achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction and operational excellence. 
  • Prioritisation of tasks and objectives, including co-ordination of maintenance resource and providing technical support to site teams. 
  • Performance monitoring, regularly assists in the review of maintenance procedures, improve reliability and record keeping, reduce disruption to the network.
  • When directed assists in the production of operational documentation including safety plans, method statements and risk assessments.
  • As requested by the Maintenance Manager provides timely, accurate and comprehensive reports.  
  • Inspect the electrical work during construction phase
  • Ensure the electrical installations remain safe and compliant, reviewing BS7671 certifications, and identifying and scoping any remedial or improvement works.
  • Carry out site visits/audits to ensure operative safety performance and work ethic
  • Create a positive work ethic by having sound leadership qualities with the operatives.
  • Production of high-quality maintenance documentation. 
  • Production of reports and information for stakeholders.
  • Optimisation of efficiency and performance to deadlines
  • Ensures sites remain safe, challenging our operatives and supply chain partners, raising close calls, participating in investigations as required
  • Provides data and feedback on team and sub-contractor performance to the Maintenance Manager. 
  • Ensures that the waste produced on site is correctly identified and disposed in the approved manner
  • Comply with relevant health and safety legislation

 

We want to hear from you if you are/have:

  • Able to demonstrate a high degree of electrical installation, maintenance and compliance competence, including the co-ordination of maintenance teams and liaison with third-party resources. 
  • an extensive understanding of client processes, specifications, and standards.
  • Applies people management and motivational approach for local engineering teams.
  • Liaises with staff to carry out tasks to ensure response deadlines. 
  • HNC Electrical Engineering
  • BS7671 Electrical Testing and Inspection
  • ECS Gold Card desirable
  • Understanding of Control Office systems including Fault Management, Traffic Detection, CCTV, Voice, and data control equipment would be desirable
  • You will be a competent user of Microsoft office and have strong interpersonal skills.

This role would suit a candidate who will have extensive experience of working on electrical systems, preferably within a highways environment. Experience in managing or supervising a team is desirable but not essential. You will have strong technical knowledge of your field and exposure to a 24/7 reactive maintenance environment, as well as being able to communicate with stakeholders at different levels.

 

A full UK driving licence is essential for the successful applicant, as well as able to work at height and within confined spaces. For this position, a significant proportion of the work will be on site, so the successful applicant must be willing to work in all-weather condition throughout the seasons.
