Your New Role

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technology Trainee Technician to join our Area 10 contract in Altrincham. This field-based role will have you working along roadsides, operating from the Hale Maintenance Compound located on Wilmslow Road, Altrincham, WA15 8XL.

 

Working with National Highways, Amey provides Maintenance and Response services for over 300 miles of strategic road network in the Northwest, including some of the region’s busiest motorways: the M6, M56, and M62.

 

As a Technology Trainee Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining technology on the Northwest motorway and trunk road network in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, and Lancashire. This includes carrying out maintenance and fault/failure rectification activities. You will support the technology team in all relevant projects to meet client and Amey objectives.

 

The role’s standard hours are 42 hours per week, with initial daytime training shifts (Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm). After training, you'll transition to nighttime work (4 nights per week).

 

 

You will be responsible for:

 

  • Assist Engineers with faults, knockdowns, and corrective/cyclical maintenance, including reinstating sites, cables, and equipment damaged by others.
  • Learn from Highways Technology/Mentor Engineers and complete all assigned duties.
  • Identify, analyse, troubleshoot, and assist with reactive and cyclical maintenance of technology equipment.
  • Manage your time efficiently to ensure effective delivery of ADAMr service levels to required outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and management of NH Confirm/ServiceNow systems.
  • Update work logs, client accounts, and handle other administrative duties.
  • Complete all training and maintain competencies to demonstrate compliance with the NHSS8 scheme.
  • Work collaboratively with highways workers, third-party contractors, and Amey crew members.
  • Maintain professional and courteous communication with National Highways (NH) clients.
  • Develop experience working with technology systems and equipment.
  • Support out-of-hours service contract needs.
  • Stay up to date with new equipment and system training, including on-the-job and formal training.
  • Undertake additional duties as needed within the scope of the role.

 

We want to hear from you if you have:

 

  • 4 GCSEs or equivalent at grade C/ Grade 4 or above, including Maths, English, and a STEM subject.
  • A Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
  • Good liaison and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer relationship skills.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • A proactive and self-motivated attitude in delivering solutions.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work night shifts and weekends.
