Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Professional Head - OLE to join our Performance and Assurance team in Rail.

 

This is a hybrid working position covering the UK and can be based from anywhere in England or Wales. A willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends is required.

 

Working hours are 37.5 hrs per week.

 

 

The Performance & Assurance team works across our rail business to govern the business's technical activities, provide assurance, and measure and continually improve our performance. The team consists of professional heads across engineering and technical disciplines, along with team members focusing on quality, competence, fatigue management, business improvement and technical training. 

 

The Professional Head - OLE plays an important part in leading all OLE and Contact Systems engineering discipline activity within Amey, providing a professional advisory, regulatory and engineering assurance capability, and advising Amey management and employees across the business on discipline matters. You will also lead and develop the Amey Isolations Improvement Group (IIG), working with colleagues and key suppliers. You will attend and report on relevant industry groups, e.g. Rail Industry Association events, and OLE technical interest groups.

 

 

 

Key responsibilities are to:

  • Assure the Sector Director Rail, Head of Rail Assurance, senior management, and outside bodies of Amey performance within the discipline.
  • Undertake technical audits (internal and external), technical briefing of key staff, and review technical performance.
  • Undertake technical health-checks, investigate or review safety incidents and discipline issues, and identify trends and critical issues that require attention.
  • Provide strategic technical and work-winning support to the Rail business, incorporating solutions to support the development and growth of the business stream.
  • Identify, review and brief changes in law and standards and where applicable, develop, review and revise appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Develop, measure, monitor and report key performance indicators in the discipline area.
  • Seek ways to use our technical and engineering assurance capabilities to enhance the performance of not only our own business, but also that of our customers and the industry sectors we operate in.
  • Manage development projects and initiatives, and interface with partners, suppliers and customers on rail technical issues.
  • Ensure the core technology and engineering capabilities and competencies are met in Rail activities and enhanced across the business, and where applicable shared across the Group.
  • Take a leading role in professional development schemes, professional succession, training and development, and discipline competence management.
  • Set the standards for competence in the discipline and oversee the issuing of Authority to Work (AtW) certificates.
  • Develop and enhance relationships with senior Engineering, Safety and Quality Managers in our key customers, and industry bodies, e.g. Network Rail, RSSB, and ORR.

 

 

 

 

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Senior level engineering and/or operational management experience in rail industry
  • Significant experience of OLE Design & Construction
  • Knowledge of railway standards and assurance
  • Demonstrable experience in quality and continuous improvement
  • Good communication, influencing, teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Full UK driving license

 

Desirable:

 

  • PTS
  • Chartered Engineer and Member of relevant PEI (e.g. IMechE or IET)
  • Kelvin TOPSET
  • Internal or Lead Auditor
