Your New Role 

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Operational Safety Advisor to join our Complex Facilities Business Unit in Birmingham. This is a permanent role that will require travel. 

The Project Operational Safety Advisor plays an important part in enabling our operational team to deliver their services in a continually improving, safe, healthy and environmentally sustainable manner and providing tactical support, information and guidance for the ops team to deliver their service. 

 

You will support the HSEQ strategy in your area by development and checking of local HSEQ plans, alongside embedding policy process & procedure, with the Operational management teams

 

The standard hours of work are based on 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

You will be responsible for:

  • Engagement with Operations: You will attend operational meetings monthly, in line with reporting requirements and will organise and lead meetings with Operational Managers & Account Managers as required supporting their reporting requirement.
  • Engagement with you HSEQ colleagues: You will attend the HSEQ weekly meetings and will keep up to date Outlook entries to ensure that you have a transparent diary and keep audit schedules & engagement schedules.
  • Incident / Accident Investigations:  You will check daily the incident reporting system (Eco-online) to ensure that managers act on all incidents. You will support the account to investigate minor accidents but lead the investigation when lost time or RIDDOR is reported - this will require you to attend sites. You will complete RIDDOR reports the HSE. You will ensure that the incident record is accurate, and documents captured. You will be familiar with and follow the procedure in line with the IMS. As Gatekeeper of Eco Online, you will report on outstanding actions. You will ensure incident investigations name and, using specialist technical knowledge, implement effective preventive actions through a process of root cause analysis.
  • Development: You will understand the IMS and be familiar with the policies & procedures that apply to HSEQ, and wider policies linked to your area of expertise such as mental health, occupational health & A&D testing.
  • You will lead on a minimum of 2 safety topics as a subject matter expert. You’ll take ownership of this topic for the policy, procedure and guidance documents, amending them as necessary to reflect best working practices, legal and regulatory requirements. 
  • Ad hoc guidance & advice:  You’ll support the business with clear & concise advice and guidance using specialist technical knowledge and escalating where necessary or where you don’t have the appropriate knowledge.  You’ll review Risk Assessment arrangements monitoring the effectiveness of risk measures in place and recommend improvements, coaching those with Operational responsibility to take the lead in the risk assessment process.
  • Audit and assurance: You will audit and inspect the sites in your area aligned to the annual assurance plan and will track and follow up with the auditees and their management team to ensure effective actions are complete and recorded. You will also support in finding trends & improving how the operational team embed HSEQ into their activity and will have a basic understanding go the requirements set out in 9001, 14001, 45001 and be able to handhold the accounts through the BSI audit process to the point of action closures
  • Bids, Mobilisations and De-mobilisations. Under direction from the Business Partner, you’ll support bidding teams with their submissions providing an overview of the SHEQ role, policy process procedures and systems.
  • Environment: You will have a basic working knowledge of environmental statutory requirements and be able to refer to the E team for support of give basic advised on issues such as waste, spills & ecology.

 

We want to hear from you if you have:

 

  • Experience of implementing Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015
  • Experience of Project Management & construction activity.
  • Entry-level health & safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH certificate)
  • Able to undertake audits to current versions of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
  • A working knowledge of accident reporting and ability to conduct incident and accident investigations using the recognised methodology and provide advice on preventive actions to address root cause.
  • Membership of a professional institution (IOSH, IEMA, CQI or similar) – or working toward membership
  • A full and current driving licence
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Creative and Methodological in your approach 
  • Excellent stake holder management skills and experience 
  • 1st class communication skills
