The Opportunity

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. With shared office space in Birmingham, Nottingham, Kettering, Telford, Bristol, and Exeter, we welcome applications from Engineers across these regions.

 

National Highways, formerly Highways England, have named Amey Consulting as a Design partner to support the delivery of the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme that National Highways have ever launched. The £3.6bn Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), as well as the Severn Bridges Infrastructure Maintenance (SBIM) Contract, enables National Highways to procure Design and Construction services across the Strategic Road Network for the next 6 years and beyond.

 

Our Local Authority business currently provides design resource for large LED upgrade programmes and ongoing design work for various local authorities supporting with lighting designs for S38, S278, highway improvement schemes and electric vehicle strategy and design.

 

In this role you will work collaboratively within the Street Lighting design team to assist with the design delivery of highways street lighting schemes for our clients including, National Highways, Local Authorities and various private sector clients. 

 

The role

 

Our Engineers play an important part within the National Highways Design & Maintenance team and alongside our client, National Highways. As an Assistant Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of highways schemes.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions
  • Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme
  • Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions
  • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries
  • Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of their workload
  • Contributing to the preparation of bids and general working winning function
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team

 

What you will bring to us:

  • Experience and expertise within the Civil Engineer field, probably gained in an Assistant Engineer role
  • Experienced in following procedures associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Takes ownership for the production of deliverables 
  • Good competence with relevant software and similar analytical tools
  • Has a good understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the different interfaces on projects
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject
