The Opportunity

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. With shared office space in numerous locations in the UK, we welcome applications from Engineers across England.  

 

National Highways have named Amey Consulting as a Design partner to support the delivery of the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme that National Highways have ever launched. The £3.6bn Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) enables National Highways to procure Design and Construction services across the Strategic Road Network for the next 3 years. Amey are design partner from National Highways in their South West and Midlands regions.

In addition to National Highways projects, Amey are on the Midlands Highway Alliance framework, winning improvement schemes across many local authorities, and have upcoming opportunities on projects in Northern Ireland, which include pavement assessment and design work.

 

The role

 

As an Assistant Engineer you will provide support and assistance a Team of people working within the Pavement and Asset Management Practice to deliver a portfolio of schemes for Clients. You will help design and delivery of multiple projects, including pavement condition assessments and pavement renewal schemes ensuring the durability and safety of our roadways.

Responsibilities include:

  • To work in a team, assisting in producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  • Assisting in the preparation of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications for pavement projects.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop pavement maintenance and rehabilitation plans.
  • Assist in evaluating the performance of pavement materials and construction techniques, including preparing survey packs and reviewing survey results.
  • Support the implementation of sustainable and cost-effective pavement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical input as required.
  • Taking responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others within the team.

 

What you will bring to us:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of pavement design principles and materials.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Previous experience in pavement engineering is a plus.
  • Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required
