The Opportunity

 

Amey Engineering teams improve the environment and create sustainable flooding solutions across the UK, by working in partnership with a range of clients, providing consultancy design services for Local Authorities, Strategic and Local transport providers and organisations delivering National Infrastructure. We make our towns and cities better places to live by improving connectivity, flood resilience, sustainability and quality of life.

 

Amey have been confirmed as the lead engineering consultant working with the NI Department for Infrastructure (DFI) on their Water and Departmental Delivery contract for the next five years, as well as NI Transport Asset Management and Translink contracts.

 

The Role:

 

With the increase in workload, we have several secondment positions available for Flood Technicians within the DFI offices across NI, working locally and in our Amey Belfast office, to support their flood management duties. These positions will allow you to enhance your career in flood management working directly with DFI staff and to thrive within our growing Flooding and Water Management Team.

 

You will be providing effective support and assistance to the Engineering Team with the production of technically sound design solutions, including all associated reporting and administration on a variety of flood schemes. Responsibilities include:

 

  • Assisting Engineers to produce project design including calculations and technical drawings
  • Prepare and update civil engineering drawings, contract documents and reports,
  • Operate and maintain infrastructure and assets,
  • Supervise staff, contractors and/or Direct Labour teams,
  • Site surveys and collection/ interpretation of data,
  • Use engineering and general IT facilities and software,
  • Apply appropriate Health and Safety measures,
  • Manage resources (both human and financial),
  • Liaise with staff from different disciplines and work areas,
  • Deal with issues raised by members of the public or management,
  • Provide assistance (including out of hours) in response to flooding and post flooding surveys,
  • Provide advice to the Planning Service in regard to flood risk for proposed new developments,
  • Contribute to and promote a positive sense of cooperation and teamwork to achieve the vision and aims of the department and provide a professional service to the public

 

What you will bring to us:

 

  • HNC / HND, or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Post qualification experience in the feasibility, design, supervision and overall management of civil engineering projects.
  • Good IT Skills
  • Experience of AutoCAD
  • Ability to act as Clerk of Works on appropriate projects
  • Self-motivation and enthusiastic outlook
  • Good communication skills – both written and oral
  • Developed good practice in Health and Safety and CDM Regulations
  • Problem-solving attitude
  • Client-focused approach to service delivery
