We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Quality Assurance Apprentice to join our SBIM account based in Severn Bridge. 

 

Starting Salary: £24,548.00 per annum (Subject to review) 

Location: Severn Bridge, Specialist Bridges - M5 Avonmouth Bridge, M4 Prince of Wales Bridge, M48 Severn Bridge. 

Working hours per week: Monday - Friday 8:00 - 16:00, 37.5hrs/week 

Start date: April 2026 

Apprenticeship Link: Quality practitioner / Skills England 

 

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Quality Practitioner level 4 apprenticeship which will take approximately 17 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered training provider to achieve this qualification, having 1-2-1 advice and support, e-learning materials, and a whole team of experts on hand for advice and technical knowledge at your office.

Severn Bridges has been working in partnership with National Highways on the Specialist Bridges Inspection & Maintenance contract of three bridges in Southwest England over a 15-year period. 

 

Covering the maintenance of three major structures; the 1.4km M5 Avonmouth Bridge, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge which comprises three structures, the 2.1km Avon Viaduct, 948m Cable Stay and 2.077km Gwent Viaduct as well as the 1.6km M48 Severn Bridge, a suspension bridge that has the second highest tidal range in the world at 14.5m.  

 

We are responsible for the cyclic maintenance, daily structure inspection checks and safety patrols as well as responding to any incidents that impact the structural integrity of the bridges.   

 

What you will do: 

 

As a Quality Assurance Apprentice, on the SBIM contract, you will be part of the Quality team overseeing, amending and improving the Quality Management systems  which are in place to support performance. The monitoring of the Quality Plan, being part of audits and helping to develop and maintain strong processes and procedures for continuous improvement.  

You’ll be part of a team that fosters engagement in reporting and drive a collaborative approach to improving quality as well as maintaining clear communication and ensure high standards throughout project delivery. 

 

  • Assisting in the development and coordinating the systems required by the Quality & Performance Team, enabling effective monitoring of the contract’s quality performance. 

  • Collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders including our client National Highways to ensure seamless communication and alignment on project standards and objectives. 

  • Assisting with the development, maintenance, and updates of the Quality Plan, along with all associated processes and procedures. 

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant processes and procedures, driving continual improvement through regular audits, and fostering innovation and growth within the team. 

  • Assisting with non-conformities (NCRs), conducting thorough root cause analysis, developing action plans, and following these through to resolution. 

  • Helping to reflect contract performance using the collaborative performance framework metrics set by National Highways, with monthly performance updates. 

  • Assisting with Audits and the potential for courses as part of training and mentorship from the Quality Team will help support and ensuring personal development. 

  • Being part of the team overseeing compliance with ISO 9001 standards, leading both internal and external audits, as well as company audits. 

  • Helping to ensure all processes and documentation align with the NEC4 standard for contract management. 

 

What you will bring: 

 

  • GCSE at grade C/4 or higher in Maths and English 

  • Full UK Driving license 

  • DBS requirement
